‘07 C50 revs freely no clutch engagement

I have a ‘07 Boulevard c50. All original parts except tires/brake pads, 30k miles.
During my ride yesterday I pulled into a gas station and noticed it didn’t want to snap out of gear. Was stuck in 2nd at the time, but hit the gas, clutch engaged and it made it through the parking lot. I had to wait for traffic, and when I let out the clutch, it had a bad shake for a split second and the engine quit. I coasted to the nearest parking spot.
I pull in/ let out the clutch & the engine will rev freely. No engagement. I’m going to check the cable first, but after that, would a clutch rebuild fix this ? Or am I serious trouble ?

The default position for the clutch is engaged.
If the cable breaks, it is engaged ALL the time.

Is this a shaft drive model ?
Some were known for sheering the gears on the shaft.

I read that it could be the electrical connection @ the clutch lever. This is the place where the wire dictates whether the clutch engages or not. I would also check the reservoir and make sure it is full, then bleed the brakes. If you have checked all the electrical connections in the starting circuit and it still won't engage then I would suggest taking a look at the clutch replacement. Very easy to replace it. Good luck..
I also own a 07 boulevard S50. You might want to buy a repair manual, as I did.

I appreciate your effort to help here but...........

That electrical switch for the clutch ONLY reports to the safety interlock system if the clutch is
pulled in when starting. It does NOTHING while the engine is running.
Also bleeding the brakes has no impact on the clutch.

Some bad information here.
Oops, I made a grammatical error. Should have been bleed the clutch. sorry..
