Hold off on the Ducati until you've got some experience and better able to handle service "issues".
DON't get the Honda. Great bike(s) but way wrong for a newbie.
I'd go for an SV 650, DL 650 - aka the "Wee Strom", Kaw EX 500 or Suzuki 500 twin - which by the way looks pretty good in new full fairing trim.
Buy used. Buy a shop manual. And buy an aftermarket shop manual. Subscribe to Motorcycle Consumer News.
Read back thru all these posts and look for the common thread. Good advice to be had.
