Although I cannot fathom being injured in the way you have, I know some of what you'll be going-through - Sep. 2002 my Wife crashed hard. Although it was "merely" (compared to your own injuries) a broken humeral-head and damage to the socket (amongst other things), she's only now gotten to ~90% of her full-function back.
It is, indeed, a long row to hoe. My Wife and I empathize with the pain and anguish you will go through, but also know something of the many triumphs you will experience as well.
We wish you Well. You will be back before you know it.

From what I remember in my automotive and aircraft schooling, using synthetic oil on older vehicles before the advent of new seals (about 15 years ago) will cause leaks because the chemicals in the synthetic oil will attack the molecular structure of the old natural rubber and break it down. So unless you have updated the seals with the new rubber, if Honda or aftermarket even does that, you are going to run into problems, in my opinion.

I've used it before with no problems. It's in my Bandit 1200 now in fact. It's made for 150k mile turbo diesel interstate truckers and authorized for us in Caterpiler, Allison and a bunch of other trannies.
That or Chevron Delvac 15-40 work great.

Went to the Berghoff for the first time the other day. Pretty cool place (though it smells like a frathouse) and very tasty brew.

Oh yeah, like none of us saw this coming.
Honestly, we'll still be here. Those of us that comment a lot will stay. It's probably for the best. Honestly, some of us tend to treat this place like our own party line, and if the changes encourage more interaction from the silent majority, I think that's good.

Valvoline and some other synthetic makers have an "old auto" or 70,000 miles + synthetic that is designed to clean up oil seal deposits and prevent leaks when switching from dino oil to synthetic. I've not been brave enough to try it, and I don't know if it works in bikes. You might try the Valvoline site - I'm too lazy to.
