I owned a '97 GSXR600 for 3 years, bought it new, and never had a single problem with it (except for when I dumped it.) Even after that, it ran like it was brand new. I beat the crap out of that thing, running into the rev limiter, countless clutched wheelies, and it never broke. It always fired right up, ran smooth, and never lost any power. I will sell my R1 and buy a GSXR1000 confident that I will never need Suzuki's quality assurance program.

Re: Suzuki = GREAT reliability

The new Suzuki is the bike to beat, no matter what all these other dingleberries might say. (I own a 2000 R1.) But come on, dude, 3000 miles in 3-4 years? I bought my R1 in July, and quit riding in October with 2600 miles on it.

Re: Widowmaker!

His comments are negative becuase he's constantly concerned with what other people do. He needs to stop worrying himself with what other people do, what they buy, how much of their money he would like the government to take from them, etc.

Why in the world do cops need more power (horse or otherwise) than any body else? There is no reason for a cop to have any more rights (or power or whatever) than me. Under the federal (and virtually any state) constitution, they don't. Why should this be any different in practice? I have just as much right to defend my life and stop criminality as a police officer. The only difference is that I pay for him to go around doing this stuff all the time.

Re: Deep thoughts from a monkey...

#1: We don't send our kids to high school in Sweden, either (although I hear the girls over there are fine, so man, I wish I would've.)

#2: It is not my job to support artists. Therefore it a crime for the government to forcibly take my money and give it to them. The vast majority of government-funded artists produce crap anyway, literally in the case of Mappelthorpe.

If we are judging our culture by our "art", I shudder when people call Eminem, Master P, the aforementioned Mapplethorpe, and numerous other idiots "artists."

Re: Widowmaker!

Given his opinion of the new GSXR1000, I propose that we pitch in and purchase Gabe a copy of it. Unfortunately he won't be able to dispatch himself right away, since he has apparently added to his lengthy crash total and landed himself in a wheelchair.

In Gabe's America, however,

We judge people not by what they produce, but by the level of larceny they would solicit from government. Then we would give it to every blasphemous, social-reject crackpot "artist" we can find. We will then haughtily consider ourselves "enlightened", while Joe Blow takes out our trash, provides us with water and electricity, and produces marvelously-engineered motorcycles for us to gripe about.

Utterly lacking in the intelligence required to design and produce (indeed, even understand) such a marvelous piece of machinery as the GSXR1000, Gabe must resort to the degradation of those that would appreciate it for its excellence.

Life must really suck for you, Grumpy Gabe.

Funded by the government?

For all of Gabe's moral posturing, the only thing he comes across as is greedy. Whenever he says that the "government" should pay for this or that useless program, read "you".

Gabe lives in a utopian fantasy, in which government could solve every problem. The only reason they haven't so far is that not enough money has been spent. The most insidious problem with this line of reasoning is not the waste of money, but the limits placed on our freedoms every time the government sticks its big snout in another area of life.

Currently the goverment claims power over issues ranging from the amount of water used by toilets to outer space. I can't imagine even Gabe proceeding to say that all of this would be approved of by our founders, or even authorized by the constitution. But, shoot, what difference does it make to him what the constitution says when our artists, the bedrock of our society, aren't making over a hundered thousand dollars a year for the crap they produce?

P.S. On the issue of AIDS, there are two nearly sure-fire ways to prevent contraction of this disease. DON'T HAVE BUTTSEX WITH MEN, and DON'T SHOOT UP. If you want to be really safe, don't have sex with anyone you aren't married to. Of course, this plan of action requires willpower and character, and of course, we can't expect people to posess those qualities anymore. They're certainly foreign to Gabe.
