Why in the world do cops need more power (horse or otherwise) than any body else? There is no reason for a cop to have any more rights (or power or whatever) than me. Under the federal (and virtually any state) constitution, they don't. Why should this be any different in practice? I have just as much right to defend my life and stop criminality as a police officer. The only difference is that I pay for him to go around doing this stuff all the time.

Why not spend the money for "art" grants, instead, on something useful instead, like cancer or communicable disease research? Most "art" is donated, or commissioned, and beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. I, personally, love blown glass as artwork, but don't think We The People should spend a lot of taxpayer money on it. If you like it, buy it, but don't expect me to pay for it. Art is fine, but, personally, I'd rather be remembered as the country who put man on the moon, a far greater accomplishment. I agree about the public school system, unfortunatley that's where my kids will go. I'll leave it up to them to make the most of it.

I lived in the Boulder/Longmont area from '75-'80, and rode my bike back there to visit in '84. It's been a long time, but there are some nice roads in the foothills around Boulder. Go up Boulder Canyontowards Eldora, ar there's another road (off of Baseline, I think) that heads up to an outlook over Boulder. Be careful though, there are no guardrails.

Seen Amadues, didn't much care for it. a) not QUITE true? It is, or it isn't. I personally know a bunch or 'furriners schooled here. Yes, our high schools suck, but they've sucked for a while now. And, I would be riding, and would LOVE to be out of the house, but it's WAY too cold and nasty here in Cleveburg this time of year.

I was at the Browns last home game, tailgating at the Muni lot downtown. There were some guys there from Liberty H-D raffling off a Harley $5 a ticket. They had the thing in a trailer, and actually took it out and road it around some. This was pretty early before the snow started to fall, but still it was below freezing.

I go 150 mph in my driveway! and my balls are so huge I have to sit in the passenger pillion to keep them from crushing the gas tank when I brake- which is only when my flip flops fall off...When I pass by women raise their skirts over their heads in salute. We do need lighter, faster bikes. And I believe that's the next frontier- at some point the power is going to get ridiculous. If a 500 pound, 100 HP bike was a "crotch rocket" in 1988, will 2013 bring us 200 horsepower, 300 pound streetbikes? Yipes! And will teenagers with student loan checks be able to buy them? I think the answer is yes to both.
What I want is a 350 pound (wet), 90 HP twin. That would be a kick-ass streetbike.
But you are right- these bikes, the 916, R1, GSXR600/750/1000, are all amazing bits of engineering. What amazes me is how jaded and spoiled everyone is! This bike could win the Isle of Man TT with $5k of mods, and some schmuck who thinks having credit makes him a sportrider can just go into a dealership and buy one! For like $10,000!
Anyone who thinks we live in some kind of repressive dictatorship is just plain bananas. This is a great friggin' country!

Given his opinion of the new GSXR1000, I propose that we pitch in and purchase Gabe a copy of it. Unfortunately he won't be able to dispatch himself right away, since he has apparently added to his lengthy crash total and landed himself in a wheelchair.

We judge people not by what they produce, but by the level of larceny they would solicit from government. Then we would give it to every blasphemous, social-reject crackpot "artist" we can find. We will then haughtily consider ourselves "enlightened", while Joe Blow takes out our trash, provides us with water and electricity, and produces marvelously-engineered motorcycles for us to gripe about.
Utterly lacking in the intelligence required to design and produce (indeed, even understand) such a marvelous piece of machinery as the GSXR1000, Gabe must resort to the degradation of those that would appreciate it for its excellence.

For all of Gabe's moral posturing, the only thing he comes across as is greedy. Whenever he says that the "government" should pay for this or that useless program, read "you".
Gabe lives in a utopian fantasy, in which government could solve every problem. The only reason they haven't so far is that not enough money has been spent. The most insidious problem with this line of reasoning is not the waste of money, but the limits placed on our freedoms every time the government sticks its big snout in another area of life.
Currently the goverment claims power over issues ranging from the amount of water used by toilets to outer space. I can't imagine even Gabe proceeding to say that all of this would be approved of by our founders, or even authorized by the constitution. But, shoot, what difference does it make to him what the constitution says when our artists, the bedrock of our society, aren't making over a hundered thousand dollars a year for the crap they produce?
P.S. On the issue of AIDS, there are two nearly sure-fire ways to prevent contraction of this disease. DON'T HAVE BUTTSEX WITH MEN, and DON'T SHOOT UP. If you want to be really safe, don't have sex with anyone you aren't married to. Of course, this plan of action requires willpower and character, and of course, we can't expect people to posess those qualities anymore. They're certainly foreign to Gabe.

I can also, having previously worked for Moen, voice an opinion about those stupid 1.6 gal/flush toilets: they suck! On the Aids issue, well, I havbe a doctor friend who specializes in infectious diseases, so I feel qualified to voice an opinion on that one too. There most likely will NEVER be a cure for Aids. Period. We can't even cure the common cold, and we've been trying a lot longer. Aids really isn't that communicable. Not like Anthrax, Polio, Strep, or even Hepatitis. What made it all front page news is that it is a GAY disease, and all the militant **** want more money spent on a disease pretty much exclusive to them. Want to cure Aids? Have EVERYBODY in the US tested every 30 days for it, and those entering or re-entering the US tested also. Those that are carriers, quarantine them. End of problem. This is the first time in history that a 100% fatal disease like this hasn't been controlled by quarantine. Of course, this'll never happen, so now EVERYBODY has to worry about it. Wow! How did we get dragged off on a tangent like this? Ah yes, "art"......

The motorcycle show at the museum was at the world-famous Guggenheim in New York, I believe. Initially scoffed at by the art snobs, it turned out to be the most popular show they ever had. EVER.
