Re: Get one of those new Buell Lightning CITYX bikes

Point taken. I feel the same way about American passenger cars.

Ya gotta admit though that most of the haters haven't ever sat on a Buell, much less ridden or owned one.

Addendum

I was looking at some stats and noticed that even my 13 year old boat anchor of a shaft drive air-oil cooled ancient obsolete Suzuki 1100G gets a 0-60 of 3.1 seconds. Quicker than the latest wunderbike. Sure, it'll go wailing by me by the time I hit 100MPH, but there's not much use for that performance curve on the street.

Nope. Race replicas are not suited to urban warfare. The gearing is all wrong, not to mention the heating problems and visibility and quickness of steering issues.

Go with the Speed Triple. Yes. Mmmmmmmm. Speed Triple.

I have it from, on these issues (wink), a reliable and highly knowledgeable source... Tuono with snorkelictomy, chip, and exhaust, Period. My next bike most likely (Soo many cool bikes these days) even in no turns havin' So Flo. PS Nakeds Rule! No comfort contest in the Heat! Any more than a quarter fairing compromises all weather comfort directing more engine heat to the rider. If cold dress warm with electrics if desired. Enjoy that non-headbobbing fresh airflow compared to a tourer while leaning into the balance point at highway speeds (unless on a Cruiser in which case "Hang on baby!") and an upright riding position around town.

Good point, the FZ1 has upright ergos for commuting and lots of juice for anything else.

He might also find a race rep is a torture rack in comparison.

As others have said, a nice air-cooled Monster sounds like a better bike for commuting in the heat.

Hey man, I am just being honest, you don't have to call me names. That is what everyone on a sportbike does down here. I have never seen one going the speed limit. Call me what you want. And besides, the Speed Triple and Buells are boring and the ladies don't care too much for em either.

Neither of these bikes is a good idea for urban/suburban use. They are too hot and too fast. But, if you have narrowed it down to these two, go with the Suzuki. The RR is simply too much horsepower unless you're going to be on the track.

You need to find out about the heat quotient. It has been my experience that liquid cooled bikes blow too much hot air out over you. It's bad in Georgia, and I assume it's worse in Florida. Air cooled or air-oil cooled bikes are a much better idea. The Ducati Monsters are great urban assault weapons, as is the BMW Rockster. (I mention them because they win the cool factor test hands down over any Japanese iron.)

Vlad,

I agree that a BMW Rockster is a better urban bike than either a CBR or a GSX-R, but the Buells and Monsters have much better midrange accelleration and will leave the BMW for dead from light to light, or when trying to make multiple quick direction changes. -Sean

Dwarfs and Trolls

Wow isn’t this site great, where else can people such as the 7 dwarfs; Grumpy – Johnny B, Dopey – Seruzawa, Sleepy – Buzglyd, Bashful - Electraglider_1997, Doc - Captainwhoopass, Happy – Sarnali, Sneezy – TatdNPrcd and that Ugly Troll (Longride) be given a international audience to expound on what idiots they are. Without the internet only close friends and family members would be the only ones to realize what idiots they are, but now through this new technology thousands can experience a true idiot.

I know - I know- In the previous paragraph I used the word idiot three times to describe the 7 Dwarfs and that Ugly Troll. In the past I described them as Morons but the Mormon Church (Church of Latter Day Saints) recently contacted me and asked me to quit referring to the 7 Dwarfs and that Ugly Troll as Morons. The Mormon Church indicated that they thought that Moron and Mormon were to close a word association. It seems they there are some in the Mormon Church hierarchy who subscribe to motorcycle.com.

I agree that the Mormon Church should not be saddled with that burden, not everybody can be saved. So from this day forward I will no longer refer to the 7 Dwarf and that Ugly Troll as Morons.

1950's tech

Oh, I didn't realize that Japanese bikes were burning hydrogen or running on heavy water. Inline 4's have been around since Honda introduced the CB750 in about 68'. Model A Fords were watercooled and all bikes as I know have been running on round rubber tires from the beginning. How many metric bikes have perimeter brakes, 60 mpg and 64 bit processors running their computers. I actually made up the part about the 64 bit just to see if you'all are paying attention.

Re: DUDE, YOU ROCK!

No donor body. I now have titanium in my body. I shattered my left femur and fractured a vertebrae in my neck. I also got some road rash where it wore through my protective gear. My left femur now has a titanium rod that is inside and goes the length of the bone. I need to get in the line for donor motorcycles though. I hope to have my bike put back together before bike week next year. I'll keep an eye out though for you and make sure the sweet little office manager hooks you up with a new body so you don't have to be like Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles much longer!!

Gosh. It's only been two weeks since you last posted on MO. That's a record. Usually it takes two months or more for you to string this many words together.

A naked bike is the way to go. I ride a Tuono and commute on it a daily. The bike has all the performance you can utilize on the street and comfortable ergos, too. The wide bars are great for manueverability and the upright ride position is great for visibility in traffic. In the straights the full-on sportbikes will easily take you but down low or in the twisties they can't hang. Plus, there is nothing like the growl of a nasty twin!

Re: I want to be a dwarf...or a troll

I'm a bigger idiot than any of those guys. Can I be a dwarf, please? Or even a troll?

And I'm not a Mormon. Although some have referred to me as a moron.

(Dude, get a new bit. The seven dwarfs analogy is was beaten to death decades ago.)
