But not in March

Meet in Idaho, ok, but not in the winter. I lived in Pocatello for many years. We'd need those ice tires with the spikes in 'em. For that matter not in the spring either.

August is nice there...hot days, cool nights.

Re: MT01

That MT01 has to be one of the goofiest looking motorcycles ever produced, outdoing even the 1959 Honda 150 Dreamcycle.

And what are those big aluminum things stuck on each side of the tank? Toasters?

Godzilla looks like he works in Yamaha's styling design department now.

Re: Razor Sharp my butt...

Back in the 60's the Ducati 250s got more powerful each year in the Berliner ad copy. Starting at about 24HP by 1968 they had 30HP! During this time Ducati made no engine changes at all. If Berliner was still in business, who knows? Those bikes might have 212HP by now.

And don't forget open exhaust. Some dyno tests even ran open ports, to get max hp readings, right before the motor grenaded. Must have been lots of deaf engineers back then.

Re: MT01

The big aluminum things are air filter covers as the air box sits over the injectors in the valley of the V twin motor.

While the styling of the MT01 is certainly "different", nothing will ever look any goofier than the 150 Dreamcycle with the possible exception of wild Bill Gelbke's Road Dog. VWW.

Re: MT01

Long ago, didn't Burnsie do a test of the Road Dog, and ate it after going about 20 feet?

I don't get this. The R6 has a redline of 15,500rpm yet the engine has a relatively long stroke of 44.5mm, which translates to an average piston speed of 4526 ft/min, 526ft/min beyond what has always been the safe limit. Is this redline for real or just painted on the tach for show? Do they figure the bike will never see over 20k miles so who will complain when the motor wears out? If it's real what have they done that allows such a high redline and how does the valve train handle the speed?

Your math looks right

(15,500 rev/min)*(2 * 44.5)(mm/rev)*(1m/1000mm)*(1ft/.305m)=~4526 i get 4523 but close enough.

Who says that 526ft/min is the safe limit? and Why? What is the limiting factor?

You are right traditionally high reving engines were thought to require short stroke. Sean and I had a arguement on this point once. I always thought the valve train was the limiting factor he argued it was the supposed fragileness of a long rod (bending moment)which I thought could be overcome with the right materials....since the relative difference in lengths is minimal.... But I am not a mechanical engineer though I took a junior level ME mechanics of materials class for any easy A. EEs (ampheads) are always smarter than MEs (gearheads)

The real person to ask is sport_bike pilot.

As metallurgy improves over time new materials may be strong enough to surpass earlier limits. Still, one might want to see just how well the new engine holds up before laying down 8+ large for one.

At one time it was considered "impossible" to build a two-stroke of greater than 250cc displacement.

I have thought for years that a pure sportbike made Naked or adding no more than a quarter fairing with better ergos would be the hot ticket. I wouldn't be too concerned about how it would look (as long as it's primarily Red of course!), my eye can see the beauty of form following function. Any of the of current liter sportbikes would work. I don't want a HP cut though, if the weight is kept down in the transition I wouldn't need additional torque. I also don't accept the necessity of re-gearing or governing the speed. I can regear, I can govern the speed. I'll bet the same formula would work in the other classes as well. Currently only the Tuono fits that niche, if it put 150 HP to the ground, cost no more than $11,000 and had the Ohlins it would be game over for me. Yeah I know, dreamin'... just my idea of reverse engineering.

To sum up then.......

........The MT-01 is ugly, underpowered and too heavy.

Or put so the squids get it.....If it weighs more than 400lbs and doesn't put 140 ponies to the rear wheel it 'aint *****!

Is there really any wonder why the US doesn't get 1/3 the bike Euro MORONS get?

/shakes head sadly/

What is this BS: Oh those lucky Euros. WE never got the Rune. If you do personal imports you cant register it as the members of the EU politbyro are too busy tinkering with laws regulating the allowed curvedness of bananas.

Euros lucky? Why? Because they get to pay more $ for an extra-hideous paintjob on the R6? And they get the priviledge of buying the MT-01 but can longer buy a V-Max or any cruiser that isn't a V Star? No thanks, I'll stick with the U.S. lineup.
