Tobacco profiteers! Big tobacco makes about 40 cents per pack. Taxes vary from state to state but for the most part the govts make 3xs as much profit per pack than the tobacco companies. (Most people don't know that the ban on cigarette advertising resulted in increased tobacoo company profits.) Also, the public healthcare costs from smoking related causes is far outstripped by the tax revenues generated and have been for a long time. The claims that the govt needed more money for diseases caused by smoking was always a total lie since smokers live shorter lives and don't impact social scurity as much as non-smokers.

Ain't social engineers wonderful?

There's a lotus that I see around in my neighborhood that has that for its license plate.

Its kind of ironic that the governments' (state and fed) reliance on the $ from taxes and settlements means if everybody were to quit smoking, these taxing authorities are going to be hurting bad. You know how they would attempt to make up the shortfall, of course. I feel like the target in a pickpocket's competition, I know they're coming, I just don't know when.
