It appears their focus is on WSBK hence the 1000 bike manufacturing run. An odd direction for them to take, I don't think there's a very big market for an over $20k sportbike, maybe just enought to support a homologation run.

Triumph pretty well blows them out of the water with their pricing structure. Labor and general costs in England are every bit as expensive as in Germany, plus BMW is part of a major corporation and has been in business since the 20's. Triumph is more or less a labor of love for a real estate developer yet their bikes are consistantly more reliable, more competitive in their individual market niche's and less expensive......

BMW has been resting on the reputation the airhead and early K models built for the last decade or so, time for them to come back down to earth.

Speaking of Bay Um Vay's...........

.....I checked out an R1200RT before I got the FLHT, a buddy of mine is a salesman at one of the local BMW joints. I thought it was a really nice bike, good handling, decent power, not as comfy as the HD but not bad, same basic price etc. The kicker was they didn't want to deal at all, I had cash down plus a trade in and they were all "there's the bike, there's the price" kind of thing. HD was willing to wheel and deal and I really liked the FLH better anyway so verpiss BMW...

And best of all you don't have to worry about exploding rear hubs and clutch jobs that require dismantling the entire bike.

there's always that......new Harleys don't seem to require much more than oil, plugs and filters now and then. I don't know of any consistant problems with stock bikes. People complain about hot running but it's a 96 in. a/c engine, what do they expect? Use Full Syn. and get some air flow over the motor instead of idling along in some dam* Shriner Parade in 100* heat
