Well, some people will like it, some not, it's the matter of taste.
But it is good thing it's here, it could push others to make similar bikes, which is good,... new class, more bikes, more competition = good for us!
I like Diavel, everything is cool, except the price.

Japan could do this bike. Not as cool perhaps, but for $9,000 less and with the usual Japanese unbreakable reliability, it could have appeal.

Victory could do this. Who knows. Victory seems pretty progressive and they are not necessarily tied into a one dimensional engine offering.

To be fair, Harley tried this market quite awhile ago with the V-Rod. Harley likely feels rather burned by the V-Rod and it would be understandable if they believe that nobody bought it because it is not a traditional Harley. That may be. Traditional Harley riders are not V-Rod buyers, and a lot of riders are not potential Harley customers due to the strong brand image that is either highly attractive or not. The V-Rod is a bit of an orphan - unloved by the "faithful" and not of interest to the rest.

It will be fun to see how this new Duc does. If it sells in decent numbers despite it's high price, expect imitators. Just because the V-Rod failed, it does not mean this concept does not have serious merit. It just may be that the concept of a no excuses high performance power cruiser needs Ducati, the coolest of all manufacturers, to sell it :)

I have to say, I was not at all surprised to see H-D drop the original iteration of the VRod this year. Too bad, too, because it was a pretty decent bike. The documentary on the development of the VRod was pretty neat, too!

Forgot to add. Regarding the Duc Streetfighter with 3K worth of bling for 12.9K mentioned in the prior post. I concur. Buy it. Buy it now!!!!

Any links to the VRod documentary? I would be interested in seeing that.

Well, I'm not too sure about that. A VMax is more expensive than the base Diavel and lacks TC. I feel kinda sorry for Mr. Max, one of the most expressive Japanese bikes ever.

The V-rod had a couple things going against it.

It was 'different' enough that the HD faithful didn't like it.

It wasn't 'different' enough for everyone else to look more than twice at it.

It handles like... Well, it doesn't handle.

It has a pitiful fuel carrying capacity.

I've said all along they should have put that motor in a Touring bike.

The V-Max has it's own unique and expensive V-4 engine. The Duc has the advantage of a shared engine, so that saves them money there.

Hmm. Suzuki could drop a Hayabusa motor in a cruiser chassis with a phat rear tire. Should be suitably ridiculous. An inline 4 "cruiser" likely would not sell though. Been there, done that before I guess.

Nevermind - LOL

Jay Leno, Kaming Ko, Lyle Lovett - gotta be somebody who has one for you to ride.

If MO is the Black sheep of the MC journalism industry, it needs to work on it's wealthy but cool riding buddy benefactor pool. Sure wish I qualified. :D
You know, now that CN is digital and CW is doing even more digital, I believe that MO was and is ahead of the curve on this one. I know MO has better than a decade under it's belt, but it's really been a leader in internet mc info. As soon as they release the Droid app they'll be the mobile leader, too.

+1 for being the first non-British motojournalista to use the word "peccadilloes" in an article :D Keep away from tired terms like 'bits" and phrases like "spooning on" a set of tires and you'll turn out just fine!

oh, yeah... a few things: the bike is rockin; b1tchin about low speed handling on a Duc, much less any cruiser, is basically unclear on the concept; and the front end is pushing because you don't have [email protected] enough to keep rollin on the gas thru a turn, so the spinning mass of that heavy rear tire is trying to pass the front :p
