I've always been prejudiced towards 750s. The Norton was the ultimate machine in the mid-60s. That was before the Great Motorcycle Muffin was even a gleam in his numerous fathers' eyes.

Besides, Norton had the best chicks in their ads. I held on to old bike mags jus' cause of them thar Norton ads that used to grace the inside ft covers.

But then there was the Ducati ad with that tasty babe with the Selma Hayek backside....
Re: I thought the whole idea of the 800 was to slow the bikes down...

My first "real" street bike was a '80 750 twin Kawasaki, I rode dirt bikes and enduro's before that. Like this Bonnie, it was the right combination of light weight and decent power application. Unfortunately without the Bonnies excellent handling.

Other than bikes like your GS, ZRX and the 1200 Bandit which are more torquey than most inline 4's I think anything over 900 is a waste anyway. You can never use it on the street to it's full potential so it's just dead weight. Notice how Kawasaki and Triumph are sneaking back up on their 636 and 675's.

Maybe the 750 is going to make a rebirth after all. I'm sure The Great Motorcycle Non-Profit seen that coming as well from his "numerous web sites" where he gets all his knowledge..

The ST 4 makes more power but the ST 3 has a better torque curve. No S, yet. BTW, I'm not the twin hater. KP thinks the motor has outlived it's racing life. He is the GMP. We'll all pay homage to him- yeah, right.
Re: 800 GP Bikes No Slouch!

Just take the Hawk GT out there and you can run full tilt all day.

It DID slow down the top-speed. But, cornering speeds are UP - hence the quicker lap times.

Re: 800 GP Bikes No Slouch!

Since the 250s are only a few seconds slower around than the big class this shouldn't surprise anyone.
Re: 800 GP Bikes No Slouch!

When are they going to introduce the 3500cc air-cooled v-twin/Schwinn Sting-Ray Chassis rule to combat this? Less is more indeed. More is more, last I checked.
No more Kawi 636 for 2007

Only the 599cc model is available for 07...The Triumph is 675 because it only has 3 cylinders, so doesn't compare.
Re: I thought the whole idea of the 800 was to slow the bikes down...

I get my knowledge from God, Matt Mladin and Howard Cossell
Re: I thought the whole idea of the 800 was to slow the bikes down...

Nice.
Re: 800 GP Bikes No Slouch!

Or start using heavyweight V-twin cruisers. Imagine Rossi on a Yamaha Roadliner with "GO!!!!!!!!!!" painted across that big, valenced fender.
Re: I thought the whole idea of the 800 was to slow the bikes down...

All is fair in love and war but some things are a little cheap. ;)
Re: I thought the whole idea of the 800 was to slow the bikes down...

haha pole times aren't the best to look at though, they did those on qualifier tires which only last 1 or 2 good laps. I doubt they were testing the 800's with qualifiers on!
Re: I thought the whole idea of the 800 was to slow the bikes down...

God spoke to kpaul the summer of 05.. He said "kpaul, my son, the I-4 is out V-4 is in, go tell the world!"
Re: 800 GP Bikes No Slouch!

The one where you can actually watch the cylinders swell and contract as the piston moves up-and-down in the bore? (with like a 30rpm idle and an 1875rpm redline......)

It wouldn't be like those wimpy open-piped Harleys with their "potato-potato-potato" - it'd be more like FOUR-ASTERISKIN'-POTATOE-FOUR-ASTERISKIN'-POTATOE-MOTHER-FOUR-ASTERISKIN'-POTATOE!!!!!!!!!!!!

(yes, they would have to add an "E", just to get the "full effect".........)

Heheheh........
Re: I thought the whole idea of the 800 was to slow the bikes down...

Summer '05 to November '06 = "years."
Re: I thought the whole idea of the 800 was to slow the bikes down...

Re: your post

A whole lotta imput for no useful info.
Re: 800 GP Bikes No Slouch!

That would be "E" for exactly.

Extract all that Extra Energy Efficiently.

Could I have more chromE with that?
