Na Na it's not that complicated.

It's quite simple really. The American Market is basically 2 segments. 1 large cruiser segement where the rider is over 35 and a smaller sportbike segement where the rider is under 35. You have some very small niches like sport tourer, standards. But they are insignificant compared to the first two. Americans don't need standards. Rather, they want sportbikes when they are young full of testorone or just love performance and they want cruisers to be part of the GPTB.

You are ahead of your time I think ... Now...

Well my 2001 ZX-6R (same thing as a 06 ZZR600) was the best selling Ninja of all time.. Why? cause it was a good sportbike (E Boz won the AMA supersport championship on it, Andrew Kit won the WSS on it) and it was a comfrontable as a VFR (MO has a comparison article of the 2 that year). Well I was talking to the Kawasaki dealer and he told me that the new ZX-6R will return the Ninja to the more comfrontable side i.e dealers complained and the factory listened.

In my humble opinion standards aren't selling now, cause they doesn't look fast and they aren't fun on the freeway. But on the other hand kpaul the GMP did predict that Naked bikes would replace cruisers as the boomers die off and get hip replacements i.e Nakeds will be the cruisers of Gen Y and X. So you maybe right in the future. A standard with a small fairing like the Monster and Buell .. You are probably a Gen Y right? Both of my daughter's boyfriends (Gen Y) like sportbikes and Monsters i.e they don't like cruisers.

Cool like I said in my other post. A couple years ago I predicted that naked bikes would come on strong.. becoming Gen Ys cruiser. i.e GenY riders would want something more comfy but wouldn't buy cruisers. Of course longride, Buz said I was nuts. Perhaps I was overly optimistic in the timeing ...I just can't see Gen Y buying cruisers in the same large numbers as the Baby Boomers.. But I think you are absolutely right these new standards can't be made with hand me down components.

(Reagan voice)There you go again (Reagan voice off).. I said that nakeds will be the Gen Ys "cruiser" i.e they will want something more comfy than sportbikes. Gen Y will not buy cruisers. That was your generation's, baby boomers (the Worst Generation as opposed to the Greatest Generation) thing. I think the Gen Y generation is going to be great by the way. If they can shed following orders from baby boomer failures like W
