Re: AMA Superbike Versus MotoGP

No seriously, pretty interesting to see that motogp times are faster, albeit by only an average of a couple seconds. I think its a combination of better technology/engineering and riding.

Times dropped by three seconds form first practice to third practice this year in china. it was the first ever motogp race in that track too. So expect them to go into low 23's if not high 22's tomorrow.

Yep I saw that on Soup (Superbike Planet). Burns predicted that AMA guys would be faster out of the gate and then the MotoGP would catch and pass em. Hopkins is a suprise. But Colin Edwards said that horsepower is not the big factor at Laguna. Handling, tires, setup are the big things.

As Eddie Lawson used to say, "Even bad GP bikes still go 190mph".

A buddy of mine has an extra ticket. It is for Sat. & Sun. general admission. I'm sure he would be happy with face value ($75.00) for it.

He is driving down to Laguna right now, he can leave it at will call if anyone needs one.

Well, it's dumb to make comparisons between balls to the wall MGP bikes and warmed over road bikes in AMA. That having been said, Maladin's time puts him ahead of some expensive machinery none the less. Expect big improvements in Moto riders manana after employers discuss lap times with riders. Glad to see negativos Melandri and Cappiossi down the list. I have a feeling this is going to be a cracker of a race!

Look at it this way: If you had IRL cars out there vs F1 cars, and they were within 1 or 2 seconds, the F1 folks would be a little alarmed.

I think Mladin will qualify a little quicker yet, but MotoGP at least a second quicker.

Excellent point. I wonder what the lap times would be for F1 vs CART vs IRL vs MotoGP vs WSB vs AMA vs NSCAR on Laguna. Just curious.... I would expect F1 would be fastest followed by CART and IRL...NASCAR being last as it should be :)

a few years ago, F1 and CART went to Montreal within the same month. the slowest F1 car was 5 seconds ahead of the fastest CART car. The difference in POLE was 40 or more seconds. It quickly ended any debate.
