Angry cagers = Trouble

Doing more.

I have similar things happen to me in Seattle on I-5 and 405 when I used to commute on my bike. I would be in the HOV lane driving 10 mph over the speed limit and be tail gated. Most of the time it was women in SUVs usually talking into a cell phone. I gave up gettng angry about it and just moved over and let them go on.

In this situation I guess I have to defend the motorocyclist a little. No one deserves to be hit with a 3000Lb + weapon. I am surprised you didn't get a little more involved by following the now felony hit and run driver and getting a better id Yes the rider was a jerk and maybe escalated the situation but deliberately hitting somone one and then running is extreme. Again I think you should of done more. If I saw a motorcyclist hit like this believe i would of gone out of my way to make sure the Driver was brought to justice. I guess maybe I expect the same from every other rider.

Re: Angry cagers = Trouble. I HAVE THE ANSWER

Even before Utah passed the "shall issue" law I was amazed at how many women I met who carried a Lady Smith or small automatic in their glove box or purse.

The penalty for illegal concealed carry in Utah is a misdemeanor so most thought the inifinitesimal chance of being caught was worth the insurance against rape or mugging.

Did I mention how low the rate of muggings and rapes are here?
Re: Let's see Duc 999S 0-60 in 3 seconds....

You are absolutely right! Dust off those cages at the lights and get to the nice, comfy gaps. On rare occaisions, if a cager in a Camaro or Mustang thinks he can eventually outrun you, let him. After he screams by, just get in behind him from a distance and let him be radar bait. Bottom line is that you want to live to ride another day.
Re: In Seattle I things would be different

they drive 55 in all lanes in the Peoples Republic of Seattle, the rest of the state they only drive 55 in the fast lane (with blinkers flashing)

True I wasn't thinking about kpaul when I said polite, my mistake.
Just what we need. Someone to start a gun battle in the middle of a city over a fender bender. I see enough bye-standers shot in the DC area. Put the gun down and go call a cop. Help the person who needs help but, unless you carry a badge, leave the police work to the police. You think you can shoot that gun? Try it with a body full of adrenaline and with someone returning that fire. You ain't gonna hit what your shooting at and you might hit me.
The Ducati rider didn't do anything to incite this, but when it became obvious the guy in the car had "issues" he should have either moved over a lane or sped up to get away.

By behaving the way he did he only escalated the situation, now his bike is damaged, he's on his butt and the car driver is getting away.

What would he have done if he caught the guy, shoot him? beat him up?, He probably would have gotten run off the road at speed and injured worse.

When you're on your bike you just don't have the luxury of getting angry and getting even, any confrontation between a car and a bike you lose. It's just that simple.
Re: Let's see Duc 999S 0-60 in 3 seconds....

Well said. I commute every morning from Burbank to Porter Ranch, (about 12 miles) and have to take the I-5 north to the 118. I don't know where you live, but this commute is like a scene from "Death Race 2000". Anyway, this morning, some nitwit in a Beemer almost rear-ended me. So I flipped him the bird, and before he could react, I was long gone. Don't mess with 3500 lbs of sheet metal.
Re: No I meant go after them to get a better ... and to deflate things

Of course we're just venting. But as tonyharrah so rightly points out, I really don't care what happens to someone like this. You know, there are just some evil little bastards out there. We'd all be much better off without them. Do you think that his sociopathic behavior began and ended with this incident? I doubt it. I'm sure if we could look into this person's life we'd find all sorts of injustices, large or small, perpetrated against others.

Listen, this isn't a case of a careless soccer mom, this is felony assault with a deadly weapon and an absolute indifference to someone else's well-being and property, so I think a little venom is understandable. And I seriously doubt that any of us wishing violence on this clown is going to have the desired effect. Hopefully, someone above is watching.

In almost every case, I would do exactly what you prescribed: just let the jerk go. And as I've stated, eddyline did the prudent thing.

it's wrong for a car to tailgate you.

but it's even MORE wrong for you to egg one on so that it runs you down and kills you.

face some facts:

1) cars can squash you like a bug

2) there are absolute, raving lunatics out there on the highways in cars, and a good number of them have guns

3) throwing a temper tantrum while on a bike can EASILY cost you your life.

it is really tempting sometimes to let someone know they are an *******. but the temporary satisfaction you get will not comfort the family you leave behind if you are killed. shine it on. get out of their way. live to ride another day. it's really the only rational behavior, if you think about it.

There's nothing cowardly about it, I'll face anyone in a fair fight, but a 3000lb. cage against a 400lb. bike is a lost cause.

Unless your a complete moron or irretrivably stupid I wouldn't recommend it. But in your case, go ahead.
you may be armed with a gun, but you are certainly missing a brain. idiot.
Re: Deescalate...

I can get mighty pi$$ed. When I do, it's almost an out of body experience. How strange it is to be looking at an a$$hole and have the a$$hole be you! My first response is to shout something like "you dumb mother-f***er". When I do that, I really try to hear myself shouting those words to me, because more times than not, I gonna do something stupid. I have to really fight to disengage, get off the bike or get out of the car and cool down. That is the only thing that I've done that ever made the situation better. My instinct is to knock the crap outta someone but it simply doesn't work. It is a struggle.
Gonna have a shootout at the OK Corral over a traffic incident? We had a guy here that stabbed someone to death over getting cut off. The jerkoff is now doing 20 to life. Hope it was worth it to him.
at times like these, i wish i had a mobile phone to dial police dispatch...you can easily out-accelerate them until a cop can pull them over.

i have had this happen to me and i ride as long as possible while keeping them at bay and look for a cop to get their attention.
Wow, I can't believe how many of you supposed motorcyclists are taking the cars side. WTF, have we all become cagers, only keeping bikes in the garage to roll out on Sunday morning to show off for the neighbors? The 999 riders only crime was shifting into 1st after the light changed. KILL THE [email protected]!! He wasted 2 seconds of some cagers time. This appears to have happened on a four lane road, "I had the privilege of seeing a Duc 999S just slowly bopping up PCH one lane over", so the cager could have easily gone around the offending Biker. But no, he decided that attempted MURDER was the correct solution.

I just can't believe the 'Its OK if the cagers try and kill me, I'm just going to go home and cry now' attitude of many on this site. I would have at least tracked down the cager and reported his plate number, but I probably wouldn't have stopped there.
Re: Angry cagers = Trouble. I HAVE THE ANSWER

Just like when Florida passed the CCW law. Now only German tourists get jacked.
Maybe if the Duck rider had been on a Boss Hoss, this would have never happened...
I never said anything about starting a gun fight. I said I would follow the car. I certainly would ignore it out of fear.
watch that kneejerk reaction. you could end up with a black eye. I was talking about following the guy and getting his plate.
Never said I'd be the agressor longride. I said I would not be afraid to follow someone and get their plate.

Road rage is something I cannot relate to. even more so when I'm on the bike. They already want to kill you after all, no reason to provoke them further.
