I have to disagree with you on that. Costs are out of control because modern medicine is a virtual monopoly. It is in fact very much protected by the Federal and State govts. It is highly subsidized by the govt and those subsidies are highly regulated. The Fed govt actually pays doctors to hook the elderly up to electric shock machines. It is the farthest thing from a free market.

When medicare was originally being debated some people were saying that govt subsidies for health care would only increase the cost of healthcare. If people were paying an average of $25 per visit a $25-per-visit subsidiy would result in a new cost level of $50 per visit. Those people were right. We now pay more than ever out-of-pocket plus we pay huge taxes to feed the allopathic beast.

Why is it so hard to see that govt cooperation is essential in any major investment scam? Why do people continue to believe that govt, over and above it's constitutionally mandated limits, only causes worse problems when it tries to "solve" them?

Many people accuse religious people of being superstitious because they believe in something that can't be shown empirically. Many of these same people run to the govt to solve every problem for them in spite of the govt's virtually perfect record of failure. Belief in Big Govt is really a religious belief. It is sheer superstition.

Have you ever tried to read his weird and wonderful book "Earth in the Balance"? The man is breathtakingly stupid... far beyond the worst blathering of BushII. His vision, if implemented, would create a nation of misery far worse than that created by the arch-fiend Josef Stalin. And all for the "public good".

Algore certainly meets the definition of an idiot per BMWVWW's favorite HL Mencken quote. Anyone who quotes that wackjob Algore must be as wacko himself.
