Re: APRILIA TUONO "RACING" bike breaks cover

What an awsome package, one can only imagine what would have happened if instead of BMW bikes, they would have used this bike for the Daytona twins cup!

You Don't Know the Power of the Dark Side!

The fairing on that thing looks like a penis head.....or perhaps Darth Vader's helmet position when he visits the highwayman.

I know that Italian bikes are supposed to be 'sexy' but com'on. They should've just put boob-lights on the front and suzuki's LED tail light in the back for a complete package. Now THAT would be sexy.

This is perhaps the first atrocity-cycle that will be pleasing to the highwayman's eye.

Hey Aprilia, George Lucas called..........he wants his helmet back

I think it looks alright.

I'll bet it approaches "ludicrous speed" though... As long as it doesn't go plaid on the long straights.

LOL at your suggested lighting combination, btw.

Transexual?

Now that you mention it, I do see the resemblance....

......but......

Penis head AND boob lights? A little gender confused, wouldn't you think? Might do OK in certain parts of California, New Orleans or the Village, but I don't see that image going over all that well in middle America!

It appears that the naked bike class is heating up.

Aprilia Tuono Racing

Ducati Monster S4R

KTM 950 Duke

MV Agusta Brutale

and you heard it here first:

Harley Davidson's Vrod-motored Naked Bike!

I think this naked bike 'thing' is just a fad!

I don't think this v-twin 'thing' is going to last much longer either! :)

When I saw the web site, I was wondering what racing venue they had in mind. I speculate that they may well promote a spec class (along the order of the Boxer Cup, but probably more grass roots) in Europe or possibly elsewhere. Aprilia have done that type of thing before. I know ~8 years ago they had an Aprilia 125 cup in Switzerland (and elsewhere in western Europe, I believe) based on the street repli-racers. Like the Tuono, the bikes were sold with all street parts, as well as the racing conversion parts.

More recently they have run the Aprilia 250 Cup here in the US.

There must be a reasonably sized club racing scene where such bikes are popular in Europe, because Ducati Performance carry quite a few race-only components for Monsters.

With the growing popularity of more sporting naked bikes (such as the new Kwacker, the F1, Ducati Monster and now the Tuono) maybe a big time racing series for such bikes could be successful. Could have real spectator appeal.

Hey KPaul the prophet predicted the Naked Bike thing

Hey I predicted this a year and half ago. Folks said that KPaul is a nut. These are the replacements to cruisers for Gen X and Y. V-Twins will be around but not in racing.

Take a Mille... take the plastic off and call it a Tuono.

Take a Tuono and put some of the plastic and racy parts back on and then charge extra for it for racing?

No thanks, why not just by a Mille.

Re: Hey KPaul the prophet predicted the Naked Bike thing

What? You predicted that Aprilia would field a racing team?

Sorry KPaul, you predicted that cruiser sales would die off, being replaced by naked bikes.

Tain't happened yet.

GenXers still want Harleys, no matter how much you might wish it otherwise. As long as the chicks get their jollies from that HD 45degree pulse, then the guys will continue to buy them.

Repeat after me:

Chicks dig Harleys.

Chicks dig Harleys.

Chicks dig Harleys.

Chicks dig Harleys.

Chicks dig Harleys.

Chicks dig Harleys.

Continue until it sinks in.... which may be the next ice age.... but just keep at it.

Hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day -- Oh wait, you GenXers don't get that joke 'cause you never learned to tell time with a non-digital watch ;-)

The naked "sporty" bikes thing has been very successful in Europe, and I believe in Japan as well, but it is early days here. Monster has been a good seller for Ducati, I think the F1 has done OK, but so far, the others have not exactly been flying off the showroom floors. My guess is that the newer ones, with more nearly state-of-the-art performance (and "edgier" styling) will do better than some of the earlier efforts.

Repeat after one again

Old Farts drive Harleys.

Old Farts drive Harleys.

Old Farts drive Harleys.

Old Farts drive Harleys.

Old Farts drive Harleys.

Just a matter of time Harley boy.

Re: Repeat after me

I knew your "new found" tolerance was a fake.

1- I do not own a Harley.

2- Harley has survived much much worse than the dislike of your ilk.

3- Lots of young chicks do dig Harleys. Your insistence that is otherwise is sheer delusion... or just plain flame bait... and substandard flame bait at that.

4- I would like nothing more than to see the market fall out from under Harley. Mainly because I'm looking for a good deal on an old Sporster I can rebuild into a Ninja-munching street-dragger.

In any case. V-twins are here to stay. As are cruisers. Certainly not at the current level of popularity. But believing that HD is going to collapse is a fool's errand.

Re: Repeat after me

You are just sad that your Brother was caught kidnapping Elizabeth Smart. Is that how you got your wife/wives. Utah is such a weird place. Seriously. Never said HD was going to collapse remember I am stock holder.

Re: Repeat after me

The weirdness factor of Utah is lower than it could be since, fortunately, you live elsewhere.
