Kewl. When the air-dam on my Signet GT fell off, I just stuffed it in the pocket of my aerostich. Now I know what to do with it. Guess I'll be wearing my special occasion helmet until I get my old one back!

I have to say, it never occured to me that this was a product defect-- just that I had grabbed the helmet wrong at some point.

Thanks, Arai!

How about $500 for the finest helmets you can buy? It's a shame there was a problem with one production cycle of one helmet model. However, their response is outstanding.

My air dam fell off too! But that isn't what they are fixing, I don' t think. The rubber trim piece that goes along the front bottom edge, which also fell off on my Signet GT, is what I believe they are offering to fix. I want to send in the air dam too, but it would probably not only NOT get fixed, but would also be lost.

I'd bet they'll replace the "air dam" as well, if you put a note in with the helmet. The trim piece, as you call it, holds the air dam in after all.

I've worked with the company at the race track, and they have plenty of helmet parts to do repairs.

I'd be surprised if they didn't give you a new one.

Yeah, I also thought that I just grabbed the helmet wrong and I had ripped the trim piece myself... I've dealt with Arai's customer service and gotten nothing but first class service. I will continue to get my helmets from them... 8 helmets so far since 1986

Well then, thank you for the advice and I will try it. Although I thought they were pretty clear in this that they will only fix the trim piece, and all other problems have go through normal warranty procedures.

Maybe I've just grown cynical from living in corruption county for too long!

MAN!

I've just finished gluing the last bit (the front piece) of my GTR (build date 11/02). The entire vinyl trim has come off my hat.

The ARAI folks said I could send the hat in and see it again in a month, or I could take some two-part epoxy to it.

So... Rubbing alcohol to clean, glue both sides of the joint, clear packing tape to hold the piece in place until the next morning. It ain't coming off again!

I've got an Astral and RX7RR with this issue. They were purchased about 1 year apart. Late 2000 and Earyly 2002 I think. So I think more than just a "limited run" of helmets were affected. Just submitted the forms and will be shipping them out tomorrow.

The RX7RR is the older helmet (almost 5 years at this point) and it's sat on the shelf for the last year largely because of this missing piece. The Astral just lost this piece last weekend at while I was visiting Laguna for the MotoGP round. shoving it into a suitcase finally caused the piece which was notably loose for the last year to come completely off. Seems like an issue when the helmets hit roughly 4 years old the glue fails.

It's nice that Arai is addressing this issue but personally I'd rather they just send me the strip and glue. I suppose full return service is a nice thing but seems a little overkill and will take longer than a simple self installed fix!
