Re: Rossi like Mladin are the greatest.

"pompous, self-centered, egotistical ass" types of people are not the least bit uncommon in racing anyhow. Or in entertainment. Or in politics. Or at Boeing apparently.

I have to say I hope not. I was/am a big Jordan fan. But over the past couple years I've started to care less and less about the major US sports. I just can't take the excessive celebration for doing the basic job, the ****iness and showboating, and of course it has gotten so expensive a family of medium/average income would have to take out a loan to go enjoy a game. Obviously there is big money involved in MotoGP but how about AMA racing where a guy can sponsor himself, put his blood, sweat, and tears in to it and race with the big money guys? He's there because sleep, food, and comfort are all secondary to racing. Like Steve McQueen said in LeMans, "When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting." That's the guy I want to see on the track.

I don't want Nike coming in and doing a brand take over and I don't want motorcycle racing to ever develop into what professional football, basketball, etc. have become.

Re: My 2/100ths of a dollar

The way I see it, according some guys, unless Rossi turns water into wine, makes the blind to see or figures out a way to get geeks like us laid (probably the hardest stunt of all) he's always gonna be an also-ran. Okay, fine, so nobody around here want s to grade on a curve, I can deal with that. But considering the guy, essentially, jumped off Secretariate, crossed the paddock, climbed up on Old Paint then proceeded to make a monkeys out of the Big Red Riders, I'd be willing to give him his own Marvel Comic, or at least the next best thing, a place on the "All Time Greats" podium. All I can say is, thank God none of you guys taught at my high school, or I'd still be in detention.

Very well said! Remember last years Australian Grand Prix? Rossi gets a 10 second penalty, he has already won the championship, the commentators are saying "too bad about the penalty, etc." so he starts pushing in the last laps (never make him mad!), while the guys on TV say "It's impossible, there is no way he can make up ten seconds" and he wills the bike to win by sliding, hanging, farting, whatever, and makes up something like more than a second a lap on his closest competitors. AND: He did not need to do that!!!! What a competitor! Everyone else looked like he was on a scooter.

Rossi vs. Whoever, Whenever (Whatever!)

Golly, from reading some of the comments, about Valentino Ross winning the MotoGp championship, a guy might think Rossi was just another Schmo. It’s all, "Until he does this, or…Until he does that, or…If so and so were still riding, or…Unless he makes the podium on a 1965-Schwinn-3speed-bicycle, he ain’t crap!" Wow! What’s a guy gotta do, to get some respect around here? I mean, all Rossi did was climb off a champion, onto an also-ran, then he proceeded to beat his former team, like a rented mule.

Sure, Rossi hasn’t turned water into wine, or walked on water. But, somebody took that factory-ride a while ago, and the seat ain’t been open since. Beside, if I remember right, the Podium Ceremony was real messy (those folks in Jerusalem are a tough crowed).

Blasphemy aside, I’ve been hearing: Jordon vs. Johnson…Brown vs. Sanders…Tiger vs. Nicholas…Ali vs. Louis, and Superman vs. Mighty Mouse for as long as I can remember. And, guess what? Just like, "How far is up?" and "What is the sound of one-hand-clapping?" there is no answer; unless, of course, you happen to attain Enlightenment; which, in that case, you probably won’t be hanging-out here, anymore. Ohm……….

At first I wasn't going to respond to this vituperative fucillade of invectives, but alas, I cannot resist to correct you on a small point of my geographical ethnocentricity.

You misspelled "Greece" and you probably meant "Italy" in the sequitur. You're wrong, my erudite collegial paisan. I'm neither - but I am in between - I'm Croatian.

It's okay - it happens to the beast of us.
