Actually... I'm one of those negative posters... and they certainly don't have anything that I don't.

They came across as pampered do-gooder yuppy wimps. Some of us really don't like pampered do-gooder yuppy wimps. What's hard to understand?

What's to complain about?? Charities are about making the giver feel good. It's in the Bible.

Real problems require massive government attention - health, education and welfare, low interest rates, provide jobs, secure rights and liberties, bail out victims of disasters, secure national interests, etc.

All the nickel and dime charity stuff is there to make us feel good.

The charity runs I've been on sucked, but I felt good about giving the few dollars to the whatever fund. Nothing wrong with that.

Well, I for one, was having a little fun. There's really nothing wrong with any of this. But since you asked, I'm not all that impressed by bunch of well-heeled guys who spent a whole $1000 to stay at fancy hotels, eat fancy food and ride with a police escort. Presumably, these are people that can afford to give far more than the thousand bucks without getting the luxury treatment in return. I bet if they organized the same event for pleasure it would cost them a lot more per head.

Make no mistake, this was a commercial event more than anything--PR for the sponsors and BMW and a marketing opportunity for the hotels to make an impression with rich folk. I repeat, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But lets not make them into a bunch of leather-clad Mother Theresas, either.
