Well, what a fine example of the dangers of arrogance and waaaayyy too much self-esteem. Guys like this would no sooner buy a beginner's bike than they would fly to the moon. It's all about ego and posing, whether it's a Harley or a Hayabusa. People who wouldn't dream of trying to fly an F-16 for their first solo will start biking with a ZX-14 as their first ride.

Joe Public reads this and sez to himself, "Them danged motorcycles are dangerous and the people who ride them are stupid." How can you disagree when you see dum stuff like this?

That said I do hope this guy recovers fully. It's not like the rest of us haven't done something really stupid in the last month or last week.

But I bet, if he rides any more, that he wears a helmet next time.

Heh heh. My cousin, many years ago, got punched in the jaw in a halfway house and had his mouth wired shut for 6 weeks. It was funny watching him live on chocolate shakes and barbiturates. Especially when he got a red stuck in this teeth and it dissolved in his mouth.

Mopeds are the hardest bikes to ride because you are pretty much restricted to the bike lanes of which there are very few. If the bike is licensed for the road then you have to try to mix it up with traffic. You are not likely to ride a moped on sidewalks and other areas away from traffic like you can a bicycle.

Like I told a young kid that is getting his first bike that just when you think you can really handle your bike and are in complete control, you are in for a body slam to humble your ass. Been there, done that. With his career window, Ben is an idiot if he rides again no matter what he has on, or doesn't have on. hell, he'll be retired at 32 and can go nuts for the rest of his life. He should give it a break for a while in my opinion.

He wouldn't have needed to wear a helmet if he'd had enough experience to avoid the left-turning car in front of him in the first place. A license and starter bike might have helped.

The press, fans and NFL are fawning all over him because he's a big asset - what about the rest of us morons?

Sorry - no sympathy for him.

Re: Full Face Helmet

I was just wondering, but there was a guy on this site that has said for years the Gen X, Y, and Z people are so much smarter than the GPTB. Maybe you remember him? He said that these kids ALL wear their gear ALL THE TIME cause they're all so smart. So if Jay Williams, Kellen Winsow Jr., and Ben Rothlesburger are the new repersentatives of Gen X, Y, or Z (i forget), it looks like these fellas ain't all that smart after all. At least two of them had no license, and one with no helmet. All of em messed up their careers. How do all these morons reflect on the idiot that claims that they all wear their gear ALL THE TIME, unlike GPTB members? does it make him look like a complete fool? I can't remember his name though. Can you help?

First off I've had my share of unexpected bike-offs and thankfully not for a number of years. Accidents happen everyday and usually while you are cranking the throttle. Anyway, I'm just suprised that he wasn't on the Rocket 3 or one of the ZX1400's. Personally, and this is just me, but I don't need a Haya-*****-extendabusa. Pretty soon, because of oneupsmanship they'll be mounting 2 wheels on a layed over Titan-3 booster rocket and I'm sure a pro-basketball or football player will be strandling it with it at a 45 degree angle. Talk about Darwin Awards.

Bottomline is he made a mistake but he's walking away from it and he probably didnt mess up his careet afterall. Nothing more said about the knee injuries reported earlier.

One thing you learn in life as you get a little older is not to judge people too harshly because odds are you're as much or more of a fool as they are.

Re: Full Face Helmet

It's easy. You just have to enjoy riding any kind of motorcycle anytime. Somehow that defines you as a narrowminded/one_type_of_ride_only V-twin lover.

Funny, the GPTB definition coming from the one guy who has only ridden one motorycle and that not very much.

Ben's bike looked like a busa. Did any one catch the espn coverage on it. Sportcenter made it out to be the motorcycle's fault. Like I tell my mother inlaw, "a bike is only as dangerous as your right hand makes it."

no brains and a bunch of ego = no helmet
