Nothing to say, really. He's met the "Letter" of his so-called "Punishment".

Vigilante Justice leads to Anarchy (if you're lucky!). Next you know, those Vigilantes will jerk you out of your house and hang you as well, all because the fine you paid for speeding on your Moto wasn't "Enough".

Well the GPTB had is chance for frontier justice with a Sturgis Boycott. But that didn't happen.. Better to party then support a brother I guess. SD folks voted for Janklow, the judge in his case, and the prosecutor. SD voters and politicians should be the folks that the brotherhood should be angry with. Folks said that a Boycott would hurt the innocent. Well if you elected this smuck you aren't innocent.

Another example of the government knowing how to handle motorcycle issues.

Clear cut example of why we need the government to handle the tiered riding system, approved gear, and proper training.

They know how to take care of us.

Don't follow you.. How would have you handled the situation? The problem wasn't with the legal system or government but the corrupt players in this case.. I am interested in your solution.. It's always easy to criticize concepts like the government or legal system but without giving alternative it's useless. How would you do things?

Well there is a first time for every thing.

Yep ksquid is right. Sturgis should have been boycotted. The boycott would have hurt some of the locals pocket books but it wouldn't have killed anyone.

Actually, the problem WAS With the Legal System - at the time (and maybe STILL so), SD Law only allowed for a maximum of a 1-year penalty in the case. Considering that, Janklow got quite a harsh penalty (6-months jail + 3-years probation, + Disbarment & loss of Driving Privileges the whole time).

Mind, I DO NOT believe this was equitable with the penalty Randolph Scott suffered, nor do I believe it was "fair" to the Public Trust. But it WAS according to the Law.

It's just a Travesty the Law had no real penalty for this situation.

That is because he wasn't charged correctly if I remember right. He should have been charged with Manslaughter or Negligent homicide.. Again a corrupt prosecutor

Unfortunately you have proven repeatedly that you can not handle a debate without being derogatory and screaming "you're wrong".

Prime example is your repeated use of your "BS meter" no matter what the tone of the debate is. And once the person responds back in the same venomous manor you simple respond with "Why am I being kbashed".

So I will simply state this and no matter what your response is, I will not follow up, it is the only way to prevent the thread from deteriorating into rehashed garbage:

The government has a history of creating laws and programs that either: waste money in very creative ways, fall very short of meeting the need of the program, missing the mark entirely, or creates a program or law that is more of a hindrance than actually solving the original issue.

I simply feel that putting the government in the position to effect what we do is a poor idea.

On the previous thread where I was giving examples of ideas and articles in which government could move into does have a sense of reality to it as history has shown that the reasoning behind legislation and program creation is not always put together in an intelligent and properly researched manner.

To quote you: "problem wasn't with the legal system or government but the corrupt players in this case"

Exactly, there will always be corrupt players involved with their own agendas.

Whether it is firearms, motorcycles, land rights, etc. I want to minimize the possibility of personal agendas and corruption from government and lobby groups.

This doesn’t mean that I am not aware of programs and laws that do help situations, but for every success there are far too many failures and it is something that I do not want to risk when it comes to something I enjoy.

bottom line in any other state like WA or CA he gets the book thrown at him.. So it's not the legal system it's the corrupt SD politicians, officials and folks that elect them..

Yes, that's a god way of translating my sarcasm into a stereotypical southern ******* response.

I'm sure that took a lot out of you. You might want to take a step back and rest up before you put the total of your creative might to use again.

I guess what I am saying is the legal system has the mechanism to deal with this type of crime. In any other state this guy would have been locked up in the State Penn for a much longer term.. The people of SD are to blame for electing him over and over when he did stuff like this in the past.. Ultimately it is every citizens responsibility to oversee the government. Also how would you have dealt with this situation?
