"FoxNews/RedState/longride playbook is to attack the person not the idea..
Mmm, you attack all persons in republican states, all persons who watch fox news and longride in person in the very same sentence you complain that your person has been attacked.
The owner of the HD dealership must have been hitting his crack pipe before the interview. There is no way in the world the a POLICE version HD product is a better overall value than a BMW police bike. 1- the bikes value is closer to $15000 new than the version he's selling. 2- the only people that buy police versions used are aware of the fact that you can regularly buy used versions for $9-$12k anywhere in the country. 3- the reliability of the BMW far out-weights any retail cost difference between the bikes. 4- you can put 10s of thousands of miles more on a BMW before a rebuild is required. So, the way I see it; the city is making the right call but they are arguing incomplete facts to make their case.
Seems simple on paper... after doing a serious cost analysis, and of course officer and mechanic feedback, they should buy and use whatever moto does the job best for the least amount of taxpayer cash. Nuff said.
There has to be more to selecting a piece of law-enforcement equipment than which tool is cheapest to buy.
And on the "buy American" issue, America is part of a global economy, and American manufacturers have to compete against the whole world, not count on flag-waving Americans to continue to buy non-competitive products.
Excellent points and maybe you should email the city or the BMW dealer... I lived in GJ for a time.. Great place to live (open minded, intelligent, facts and data type folks) I am sure they would read what you have to say. My kppI shows the BMW to be much superior, a full 20 points higher. Add ABS and heated grips.. better handling...
There used to be a mandate for many states that required American products. Now that HD sources more than half the parts from overseas to build the bike should this mandate even matter anymore? Should all be a question of value. Don't we pay more for products based on the knowledge or fact that the product is better than its competitor's cheaper less competitive product?
Well, I dont know about the rest of you, but I for one prefer to have police officers mounted on the heaviest, slowest, most uncomfortable, and least confidence-inspiring bike they can find.
