A real crapshoot here.

The max range of 45 miles is at a speed of 25mph.

I really wish they would stop calling these things 'zero emissions'. The emissions happen at the power plant instead of on the street. For most of the country that's coal.

It has a number of problems to overcome. First off it's $12K for the performance of a 50cc scooter.

Usually new products are very expensive (VCRs, Camcorders, Computers, etc for example) but if they are popular with the more wealthy the prices of these products drops lower and lower over time until they become affordable for most people. The problem here is that I don't see lawyers and doctors and investment bankers buying these things to ride to work.

I'm afraid that this thing will more closely follow the 'success' of the Segway scooter. It'll be a limited interest item and the company will have to offer special long term contracts to move many of them. Even then I doubt many will want to pay the same for this that they would for a Toyota Yaris. It's doubtful the middle class will be willing to fork over the cash for these in any numbers. Heck, even with the EV automobiles the industry couldn't attract the wealthy self-professed greenies in any numbers and thus the EV went bye bye.

If they want to offer 50cc performance then they'd better find a way to get somewhere near 50cc price fairly quickly. I don't think that trying to make people feel guilty will be a good marketing strategy.

It makes it mighty hard to feel warm and fuzzy when you keep pointing out facts like that. Hater!

Excellent Point.. On the other hand if we would get serious about nuclear power again..( ;) like France) we could build a pretty good infrastructure around electric power..

Ha! Just think how bad you'd feel if I gave a dissertation on the ineffiency of battery charging via line losses. To get X amount of charge out of a battery you have to put something like 3x charge through it.

Oops. I did it after all!

I agree and that point gets left out of the debate. However, as you remember from sophomore thermodynamics that a gasoline engine is not very efficient compared to an electrical motor.. So even with line losses, which I concede are substantial, if electrical power was cheap and relatively clean (nuclear) It would still be a good alternative for trains, light rail, monorails, trollies, buses etc...Especially since oil prices will continue to rise and haven't gone down to any degree since the last time we debated this topic... ;)

I just got back from a cruise. I should have asked all the passengers how much CO2 that ship belched into the air while we were consuming vast amounts of ****tails.

****tails, too? And Alfred Hitch****? At least it gets ****sucker now. LOL! How about Brit terms like "**** it up"?

Oops. I ran out of gas and had to turn my pet****.

Is there any debate now as to whether the forums are confusing?? The staff is posting things that were already talked about the day before. I think that answers that question.

Anyhoo...cute 'lectric bike. It's perfect except that it doesn't go very fast, doesn't go very far, but does cost very much. Fix the speed, range, price, and get that nuclear infrastructure up and running so it would make sense to ride this thing and Brammo! will be good to go.

Can you trust a company with a name like Brammo? Shouldn't they be making frisbees or drain cleaner or something?
