I totally agree they need a new engine, but I am not sure whether they can afford designing and building a new one. They are competing against the Japanese who have, say, 500 experienced engineers working on the engine department, top notch production lines waiting for re-tooling and honed hi quality subcontaractor networks ready. How do you beat these guys having the other eye on the quarterly results, tough game.

Hats off for Mr. Buell though, see what he has to wrk with and where he is now.

OK so HD could for sure. But they won´t. Also those sport riders generally wouldn´t take a brand for a substitute of lack of performance. This is to assume HD couldn´t match the Japanese, which is fairly safe assumption.

Sure its been lauded, it won 2002 Naked Bike shootout. But check those dyno charts. Compare the FZ-1 and ZRX-1200R curves to Speed Triple, what do you see?

I help you here: serious lack of oomph and torq on low to mid revs, and then a sudden cut due to the narrower power band. Way more expensive. And is the quality and reliability up to the Japanese level, not in my opinion.
