has anyone taken a bigger engine and put it into your bike? i have a 2000 gsxr 600 and i wanted to get some more power but i dont want a new bike. i was thinking about buy a newer model engine in the 1000 range. i was wondering if it would fit or if i would be wasting my time. if you have some info, it would really help me out. thanks

You'll need some kind of lube, a Big F'n Hammer, and a somebody willing to hold the motor and frame while you "install" it...............

You would need not only the engine but the entire fuel/exhaust systems, electronics package... etc. These components all together would cost as much as a new motorcycle. They probably wouldn't fit anyhow. So you would have to find someone who could heliarc weld new mounts, etc. Good f***ing luck. You'd likely end up with a death trap.

The days when you could drop a Honda90 motor into a Honda Trail55 are long gone.

I would assume you can buy two new bikes on the time and money it would take to make it work. Then how long would it work as the engine is used as a stressed member and many, the swingarm is hung off the back of the block. Buy a small Snail (turbo) and a Nos bottle. May be cheaper and easier until it blows or you run into something at 160.

You're wasting your time. You'll waste your money. You'll ruin your patients. You'll be disappointed in the end because the suspension upgrades after the motor will cost you another $3000. You'll end up with a very nice Gixxer w/ $7k invested but worth $3000 in the end.

Not to be rude here but it's doubtful you're using anywhere near the 600's full potential in the first place, why do you think you need more power?

At any rate your best bet is to buy a used 750 or 1000 GSXR. No Frankenstien 600/1000 is going to work as well as a stock 1000

ENGINE SWAP! Donna do it laddie. I once tried to stick a KZ750 motor in a 1971 Husqavarna frame, and boy. did I learn a few things...like chain alignment, swingarm position, motor mount insanity...I'm sure since you want to swap a bigger motor into the same marque thinks sorta line up, but you can't imagine what 1/4 inch off can do to motor mount bolt holes, air celaner set ups, gas tank mounting, etc.etc.etc. It can drive you to drink. You also need to be an excellent welder, and have a whole shop at your disposal (grinders, drill presses, vices, bending tools,etc.). Why not just buy a 1000, and stick all the 600 insignias on it?

Don't listen to these puss:es, Joe! You CAN and SHOULD do it! Get the Gixxer 1k engine and fuel injection from the local junkyard. Usually the engines are fine; it's the rest of the bike that's wrecked up. Shouldn't be more than a hundred. Pull the old engine, fit up the new one. You may have to use some metal straps and all-thread in a few places, but you can GET 'ER DUUUUUUN!

Send in photos as the job progresses, willya? F'in things gonna wail Dude, WAIL!!!

It worked just fine with Larry's minibike. We traded a 3hp B&S for a 5hp...no problem. The problem came when we sawed the front forks in 1/2 and welded in some water pipe to make it a chopper. Larry made it about 2 blocks when they broke. The busted forks stuck in the ground like a knife. Larry and the minibike did a ground loop endo that was awesome!

As long as he leaves the suspension alone he'll be fine!

Not exactly the best example for building confidence. I'm sticking with Cuddy on this one.

Minor engineering discrepencies Ken, don't let these nattering nabobs of negitivity disuade you from your chosen path......As with any foreward thinker those who are mired in the past will not and can not rise above their own moribund thinking...so what if the forks fell off....next time they won't !!! You have the vision...you have the tools... you have someone stupid enough to try it so you don't have to...GO FOR IT MAN!!!!!!

I failed to mention this was in the early 70's and we did the work in Larry's parents barn. Nowadays, I limit my "engineering" to misinstalling accessories on the DL. Last I heard, Larry was in rehab due to an (allegedly) unrelated drug dependency.
