Re: Carbon Wheels

I have a pair of BlackstoneTek (BST) carbon wheels and in almost three years of service they haven't leaked any air. No experience with Dymags.

Without any other modifications the motorcycle accelerates, brakes, and corners easier. My BSTs replaced forged aluminum OZs on an Aprilia RSV and the difference was truly amazing. You feel it immediately. The bike developed no bad habits, quite the contrary in fact: on many rides better fuel economy was noted!

The downside for me is post-crash damage- I would personally err on the side of caution and swap out a carbon wheel if there are any doubts about integrity.

I have a ZRX1200R with forged aluminum wheels for $1200. It made a noticable difference in handling and ride.

What about spacing, and speedometer drive? Are these compatible wheels? (The ZX9 wheels don't directly fit) and the sprocke mounting is different and may not have a cush drive.

My next step is the OHLINS shocks. Currently, I have "flipped" my e-centic chain adjuster for quicker steering, but with the OHLINS, I sould be able to put them back and raise the ride height with the shocks... but I degress. I would go forged aluminum, for durabilities sake.

The only qualm I would have on a daily-rider would be durability questions. But, that all depends on the roads you have to ride, etc. If it's full of potholes and crap, I'd skip the carbon and go with forged.

(or, being' the cheap-arse bastitch I am, I'd skip the whole thing "new wheel" thing and just ride it - but that's me)

they are ZRX wheels so it's a bolt on.

Ps. When you get the shocks keep the eccentric flipped and give yourself about a 10-15mm lift with the shocks. Then drop the front about 1/2 inch. You'll love it.
