But seriously, if you really think that the red states are theocracies and that all republicans are stupid then you should get out more. University life is not conducive to being exposed to opposing views. Quite the opposite. You need only see the fascistic speech codes to get a clue of who the true totalitarians are.



As for theocracy, given the I'd rather a politician take inspiration from the bible than "Das Kapital", Malthus or Keynes. Remember that an estimated 100 million corpses have been created in this century by adherents to totalitarian socialist philosophies.



And if you think that democrats are wishy-washy.... have you seen the report of the masked democrats vandalizing a pubbie headquarters and the calls for civil war on the blogosphere? Harldy wishy-washy.

I left the University scene 5 years ago and in the subsequent time have encountered thousands of people... and my University experience was nothing but opposing views and factions. Matter of fact, at least during my University years people could better, more eloquently, and more thoroughly argue their sides. Whereas out here in the "real world" people are more inclined to regurgitate sound bites and propaganda.



I agree with you about the carnage created by totalitarian socialist regimes, but my question is then, can we not have a socialist regime without totalitarianism? I do not believe that democracy and socialism must be mutually exclusive. I also do not believe that capitalism and democracy are inextricably linked.



You also make a good point about the theocracy issue, but I don't trust the church. The Church is a beauracracy hell-bent (and I do mean that) on retaining its own power and influence. What the church and religious right advocate, is different than what Jesus was all about. I don't think that Jesus would have been a Republican or Democrat or Libertarian. He would have been far more inclined to be a Socialist, but maybe he would have eschewed that in favor of being a Humanist.



A civil war can be waged in a manner not requiring guns. Just look at India and Gandhi. The Civil Rights movement of the 50s and 60s were a civil war in its own right.



I do not advocate violence. There can be civil unrest/ civil war without violence. Of course the 2nd Ammendment was meant to allow the people of this country a means of defense from tyranny, but how well has that worked out? This Government has no problem killing its own citizens. If we were to fight back, we'd have Waco and Janet Reno all over again. So then, I believe it is best to seek alternative means to revolution.



I really like you Seruzawa, your intelligence and candor are very much appreciated on this end. We won't agree on many things, but that's okay. You make valid points and arguments that I will think about and consider.

The bigger (more important) question is: Are there places to ride pocketbikes in safety? I am in the process of building a multi-use track. Specifically dissigned for qt midget race cars (oval track) and an infield race course. Now, the bigger question is: What are you willing to pay for use? Would you pay daily rates or go for some membership that would give you use of the track damn-near anytime you wanted?

Talk to me. Oh, It's probably going to be built in GA first but franchised later.

Once again, my feeble-minded friend, you miss the point. And in doing so, you've actually made my point. Ugh, this is so exhausting, but I'll bite.

My point was to illustrate that generalizations don't always paint an accurate picture of people. Take, for example, you and your ilk's assertion that everyone that voted for Bush in the heartland states is either a three-toothed ******* or some kind of religious nut. That is obviously not the case. In fact, even in the Soviet Socialist Republic of New York, Bush got about 40% of the vote--far more than what was expected.

My interpretation of the "moral values" issue is not so much about gay marriage (actually 67% of Republican voters are in favor of civil unions), but about the Left's assertions that their values should be adopted as gospel by people they deride as religious wackos and hicks. Do you really know that unrestricted abortion is not wrong? Can you really say that with any certainty? Are all of our social programs really helping disadvantaged people, or are they, in fact, keeping them in a state of controlled poverty? Do you really know the answer to that one? Is the answer to fixing our public education system to throw more money at it--when we're already spending far more money per student than any other nation--or is the problem somewhere else? I won't even begin to touch foriegn policy.

What the Left has done is demonize one man, in turn demonizing and alienating millions of people. It was a terrible tactic. And the ultimate in intellectual arrogance.

One man is not responsible for all of our problems. It's just not credible. Common people are much smarter than the Left gives them credit for.

You, my friend, are a perfect microcosmic example of that. All you do is call people who don't agree with you idiots. You refuse to accept that other people have views that should be considered. The Left has run the most insulting propaganda war for three years now. And all they can do is accuse the other side of being arrogant. It is almost inconceivable.

Michael Moore is the champion of truth and the working man?

Willie Nelson is a responsible, upstanding citizen?

Our nation should reflect the values of every drug-addicted, serial marrier, convicted criminal in Hollywood that supported Kerry?

Were they just kidding the whole time?

As for all the circumstantial attacks against Bush. using the same kind of logic, I can safely assume that Kerry is a freeloading war criminal who has twice married for money. (No, I really don't believe that.)

Start a small business. Be prepared to not take a salary for at least the first year because payroll taxes, corporate taxes and employee payroll and gov't licensing, regulation, etc. will suck up every available dime.



Then acheive some moderate succes and jump about three tax brackets and watch the gov't now consume about 50% of what you earn.



Get sued by a few unscrupulous attorneys and have some employees file work comp claims or develop drug habits.



Add water and you'll be a Republican soon enough!

Being a supporter of small business means you get the hell out of the way. When the gov't wants to "do something" for you it rarely works.



When we first started we were an S corp which pays the same tax rates as individuals. A tax cut is the best way to help small businesses grow. Now we're a C corp so it's a bit different but we still get buried in taxes.



I've got a lot of friends who are contractors out here. Most of them have a sticker on their trucks that say "Make welfare as hard to get as a building permit."
