Technical tip:

Underscores in host names are bad. Many programs will imediately toss it out as invalid and prevent people from browsing your site... and buying your bike!

DNS vs. Underscores

Thanks for the concern, Lowrez.

My (free) web host created that host name for me... When I first opened the account, the URL structure was different (e.g. "members.tripod.com/william_c_jones/.."). At the time, they didn't use the account name as the host name, so I never thought about it twice.

Since the DNS at tripod.com is the only one that needs to manage the host name (as far as I know), and since they assigned the name, underscores and all, and since you and I can both see my web pages, it must be okay. No one else's DNS or BIND should ever have to handle that host name, so I'm thinking I'm in the clear.

Let me know if I'm wrong.
