I agree with your first statement. Like Ferrari with their cars Ducati seems to sell bikes to race and not vice versa. I admire the Italians passion! I had an opportunity to ride an '03 749 through So Cals pass roads recently and was amazed at it's competence on them. I understand that at the racetrack a new 600 is faster but I doubt an equal rider can comfortably go as fast on one on a twisted road (rode an '03 R6 back to back with it). It was so easily fast and forgiving. I finally got the V-Twin power thing (I have a ZRX 1200R). The 999 with it's same size and more everywhere power would be awesome. I'm more interested in results than methods and I have no doubt that Ducati will produce a fine enthusists motorcycle in any configuration.
