Undoubtedly the worst Photoshopped picture I have seen this year - it looks like they took the original racebike pictures, added in some fake sky and pavement, and digitally slapped a license plate/taillight (an ugly one at that) on it. It doesn't even have front turnsignals!

On a related note, if they can make a V-4 streetbike that sells, more power to 'em. But it would be the biggest mistake they could make to abandon their own unique V-Twin heritage (IMHO).

I'm not so convinced that Honda will produce the V-5 in street form... at least not in something that the average joe can afford. I think that for the time being the Japanese will stick with inlines because that's what they can make for the price people will pay for sportbikes.

Are you abandoning your precious performance/price ratio criteria.A V4 Ducati streetbike will undoubtedly be priced higher than the 999

I thought they did do away with the boxers for a while after the introduction of the K's, only to bring them back due to outcry from BMW owners, past, present & future. Maybe I'm wrong?

Nope, they continued with the old airhead -- the last one with the Paralever (tm) rear suspension (R100R) was actually a pretty sweet bike, and was replaced circa 1995 by the air-oil cooled 4-valve boxer.

Actually, by the time they introduced their first V-Twin in 1970, they had been making singles for about 25 years (if you count the "Cucciolo" motors they made for bicycle frames circa 1946). By 1948 they made complete motorcycles.

Their Dr T. designed racing singles debuted in 1955 (100 Gran Sport) and continued in various displacements up to 450cc through mid-late 70's -- so they ultimately had about 30 years of singles history, and Ducati did not really become a "V-twin" company until late '70's. So, they were predominantly a singles company for roughly the same length of time as they have been mostly a V-Twin company.

I agree with your first statement. Like Ferrari with their cars Ducati seems to sell bikes to race and not vice versa. I admire the Italians passion! I had an opportunity to ride an '03 749 through So Cals pass roads recently and was amazed at it's competence on them. I understand that at the racetrack a new 600 is faster but I doubt an equal rider can comfortably go as fast on one on a twisted road (rode an '03 R6 back to back with it). It was so easily fast and forgiving. I finally got the V-Twin power thing (I have a ZRX 1200R). The 999 with it's same size and more everywhere power would be awesome. I'm more interested in results than methods and I have no doubt that Ducati will produce a fine enthusists motorcycle in any configuration.

Dunno, from what I hear, guys like Mick Jagger and Rod Steward etc rank her as pretty hot stuff! OK, that was probably a few years back, but she still looks damned hot to me, regardless of how old she is.

Besides, as this is a fantasy anyway, I am thinking of the Tina from, say, Tommy, or at latest, the Mad Max movie Thunderdome (?)

Lauren Bacall is even older -- in a perfect world, I would want her at 19 from "To Have and Have Not" and also as she is at present.

And I would want a Vincent Black Shadow in my motorcycle collection even if IT is way past its prime as well.
