19 hp weighing in at 140 lbs, whisper quiet, sounds great. Whats with the 10 mile range though? Ten miles or 45 minutes? Doesnt that equate to 13 mph? Whats the range at 40 mph then-- 2 miles?
Lots of questions, but the future is clear and it aint the internal combustion engine.
Interesting, but they don't mention how much the battery packs are. A decent car battery runs $70. Also the 10 mile range is suspect. Is that 10 miles at full discharge? Don't most MX races go farther than 10 miles anyhow? Will they sell enough of these to justify a new racing class?
I can just see it now. Silent MX races. Except for the dozens of generators blaring away in the background.
Also, from what I know about batteries too much of the 50 minute quick charging is going to be very hard on battery life.
On the plus side you can tear up your backyard without having the neighbors calling the cops or stringing neck-high wire.
You CA guys are going to be in trouble if CARB finds out about this.
You can go to www.goblade.co.uk for electric dirtbike that looks like a motorcycle and not some kind of mutant minibike.
Personally, I see electric motorcross bikes taking off. I invision motorcross tracks set up in the city because the neighbors don't complain about noise. You have several Li-Ion battery packs that change out between races. If it really caught on, you could have battery packs that track owner rented and charged on site.
Bicycles don't make any noise either, but they have been kicked out of most off road areas in Chicagoland. If the neighbors don't have noise to complain about they will find something else. You can count on that one.
I just can't get all fired up about electric vehicles.. As you might of guessed kpaul was always the first kid in the neighborhood to clothespin playing cards to his bike spokes every spring. i.e. I love the sound of the internal combustion engine... yes I have a degree in electrical engineering but electric motors are boring and simple...and they don't sound sexy..loud pipes saves kpaul sanity..
It's a start. Gotta fiqure out a way to recharge the battery as you drive. One of those flip-over generators that powered bicyles headlamps back in the old days.
