The unasked question

When will this motor be used in a Ullyses?
When will this motor be used in a Ullyses?
How about never?
But if they just would put a modern motor into the Uly, it would be a great bike and they'd sell...

...probably the same number as they do now.
Erik got it right. Market the thing to a different crowd than the current crowd. Someone here said that the bikes will sell well in Europe. So did Ducatis. Now, Ducati relies on the US market to pay the bills. Things shift. We "slow minded" (read that on some lefty euroweenie website once) Americans sometimes have to be prodded into things that make sense. It's will take a couple years to refine the bike, but in the end Buell will sell more 1125s a year than the rest of the line-up combined. Well done, Erik!
Back When....

I knew Erik way back when he lived in Gibsonia. I had seen the Buell signs attached to a few of the Harley Davidson shop signs. It was our friend Steve, who told me that yes, that was our Erik. Your article regarding the career about Erik Buell is highly enthusiastic and strictly technical. But, what about the man himself. Erik is an extremely intelligent, hyperfocused individual. The article, however, is notably lacking in, just who is this man? Has success served him well? What is happening in his life? The personal side of the man is missing from the article. The article is one dimensional. Add another dimension, the human factor and you'll have a fantastic piece of work.
The movie industry loves the Ducati. You want to promote Erik's work? Give one to a star such as Brad Pitt, who loves his Ducati by the way; pitch it for a movie and voilà! Watch the sales jump. Use other industries for promotion.
horses for courses...

How about never?
The Thunderstorm motor that's in there now is the best for that application. That type of riding requires a ton of grunt, not high rpm ponies. I have half a mind to trade my Dyna and my Bandit in for an '08 1200XT ! for the type of riding I do the Uly with a trunk, bags and heated grips would be the bees knees, perfect for commuting year round, great in the mountain passes and good for hauling groceries plus 50 mpg to boot.

I'll probably need some KY Jelly for when I try to trade in an '05 carburated 88 though, 6 sp 96's are about the only things holding any real value at trade in time.

Even though KBB trade-in value on the Bandit is $2740, since yer' an internet buddy, former Suzuki owner and a fellow Navy vet, I'll take that $2500 and call it a deal!

Now, you can pay me when you get her to pick it up or you can pay me before you come pick it up, I'll give you and the little lady there a minute to talk it over eh?.........Can I get you some coffee or tea?...there's probably a few doughnuts left in the mechanics crib I can grab for yaz........
