Is anyone really surprised by this?

This sounds like the filthy rich oil interests have at least as much control of the EU as they do the US! Looks like the regular guy's going to have as bad a time in Europe as we are here.

Fat Cats are Fat Cats where ever you go and they own the press so this'll be interesting to watch.
I've been watching this debate for about 18 months or so and it doesn't suprise me. Evil politicians will willingly kill one industry if another has enough money to contribute to their pet causes. The auto indusrty is using safety to kill the motorcycle industry and it will work if the motorcycling community doesn't respond.
WTF?

I read the article. Where do you get "filthy rich oil interests" from? If anything, it sounds like an environmentalist position.
Nope. They know what's Right For Us. Just like our mommies.

This seems a bit odd. Europe has Honda and Yamaha factories, Ducati, Triumph etc. They will have to modify to EU standards except for mopeds and scooters(I expect). So, their popular road bike lines will have to be for export only. HD will not be able to sell to the EU unless they meet standards. No longer anything big in from Japan. I'll bet that will put a bit of a crunch in their market.

i wouldnt get too excited about this..there are thousands of these type papers published every year by the EU mostly as discussion documents...the percentage that make it into any sort of law or directive is pretty low....the most onerous criteria that any manufacturer has to meet is the emissions regulations which apply regardless of engine configuration....and we still have 2 strokes on the roads like 125 and 250cc trail bikes and scooters
Why would the auto industry want to kill the motorcycle industry? One is not a competitor for the other.
I hope you wrote that tongue-in-cheek because that has to be one of the kookiest replies ever if you're serious.
Re: Bureaucrats Want Smokeing Curtailed.

i wouldnt get too excited about this..there are thousands of these type papers published every year by the Govt mostly as discussion documents...the percentage that make it into any sort of law or directive is pretty low....the most onerous criteria that any manufacturer has to meet is the tar/nicotine regulations which apply regardless of smoking habits....and they'll never ban smoking in open areas like parks or in your own car or home.....

Get complacent and they will.

The Japanese big 4 no longer need motorcycle lines at all to remain highly profitable companies. Make it too hard on them and they'll stop exporting to the US and EU.

Sorry if my opinion is too far out of the mainstream.
This is just a report and not a law. Also, it is an EU report...it would have no impact here in the US, even if it became a law in the EU.

I understand that some of our members are European, but I think that most are American.
Don't worry. As soon as Chuck hears about this these bureaucrats will be in a world of pain.
How does one get in on being a filthy rich oil baron? To listen to people you'd think that there was an Evil Capitalist Oppressor_tm hiding behind every bush (pun intended). How can I get in on the action? Just think of all the motorcycles and cars I could own if I was an ECO_tm. First off I'd get a McLarenF1.
I have no clue how that multiple post happened. I only hit the submit button once. Seriously. Must have been the evil oil companies.
I'm trying to figure that one out, too.

Oil companies and the auto industry are out to destroy motorcycling through behind-the-scenes political machinations? Really? How about McDonald's? Halliburton? Wal-Mart?

When did big corporations become the new International Zionist Conspiracy?
