Review falls short

A freebie is a freebie, and I appreciate MO giving us a more indepth look at the bike. But the review was, like MCW's, a bit wishy washy. The writer could have said in a sentence or two that it didn't match the R-1's performance parameters, then, judging the bike as a standard, could have clearly reported on its performance in a variety of situations instead of giving us a meandering tale that raises more questions than provides answers. During the road test or in that 10-day gap since it took place, MO could have also rustled up a Bandit to do a brief comparison. That would be the kind of reporting that would make MO top dog and get people to open their wallets and subscribe....

Re: Review falls short

Fair enough Brent, and I hope my criticism didn't obscure my appreciation of MO making the effort to do the review in the first place. I, and judging from the posts a lot of other people as well, am looking forward to more info on the FZ-1, and an eventual shootout including the Bandit, Speed Triple and ZXR1200. In the meantime, how about a VFR800 vs. Bandit shootout? If I'm not mistaken, MO has long-termers of both sport-tourers.

Wind protection

Take a good look at the FZ-1. The wind protection is going to suck big time compared to your VFR. If you live in SoCal or some other hot climate, or just ride around town with a fair-weather weekend ride tossed in every now and then, no problem. Otherwise, put an Erion full system exhaust and a K&N filter on your VFR and you'll get about 110 at the rear wheel. That'll bring you within 10 hp or so of the Yamaha's true power figure. You won't get battered by wind and cold and you'll save about $3,000 in the process.

Smart move, Hubec. Now take that $4 grand you saved by not trading in your VFR for the Yami, buy yourself a full-system exhaust pipe to liven up your ride with an extra 11 or so ponies and treat that someone special in your life to a nice dinner. You've earned it!
