Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

Wow, that's awesome. Soo, all I have to do is spped in florida and the popo can grab my bike and keep it, claiming that I was "evading." Sounds like a load of bullsh*t to me.

Awesome, my first first post
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

What a classic tactic, seize property then drop the charges, phucking pigs.
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

Sounds almost like we are making up our own laws as we go...
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

It's becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between the police and the criminals. I'll bet a lot of those bikes end up in cop's garages.
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

Hmm.. i wonder how hard it would be to counterfeit a tag and throw it over your legit tag while your on the highway. No sense playing by the rules if the enforcers aren't.

On a more serious note though. That nonsense is going to seriously hurt the credibility of law enforcement.

"On a more serious note though. That nonsense is going to seriously hurt the credibility of law enforcement."

If killing innocent people in no-knock raids doesn't, I don't see why this would.

Besides, the precedent was set with property seizure in the "War on Drugs." Your maid left a roach on your yacht? Sorry, sucker. Our SWAT boys need some new GI Joe "tactical" toys...
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

You left the "only report part of the property and take the rest home" part.
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

You mean that there is a difference?
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

Sounds like the Florida police have become little better than a well armed, well coordinated gang.
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

Florida law provides due process for civil forfeitures, but it requires a much lower standard of proof than the "beyond a reasonable doubt" needed in a criminal proceeding. As in all things legal, the key is in the integrity of those who enforce the law. "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?"
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

It appears that no one is gaurding the guards.......
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

....with fully automatic weapons, helicopters, radios and radars, a few boats and carte` blanche`to do whatever they feel like in the name of the state, backed up by a favorable court system and funded by you, the taxpayer.

I hate to veer off into Kay-Pee land, but wasn't the one of the GOP's planks to get government off the backs of the people?..Seems like ol' Jeb's bound and determained to get the government as far up your nethersump as he can.....

I sure hope he runs for pres, another Bush in the white house is just what we need to complete or journey from a representitive democracy to a neofascist national socialist workers paradise.

"I hate to veer off into Kay-Pee land"

Too late!
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

Oh yeah. That won't happen with the other guys in chatge (eyes rolling).
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

W00!! now I know where *NOT* to retire.
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

And we wonder why people flee? Oh, well, that's reason #956 on the ever increasing list of reasons not to go to or retire in Florida. I hope that Ohio state Kicks their bitts. And I really despise Ohio!

Does the law apply only to 2 wheelers? Did you look at the other items on the left side of the page in the link? Every one else seems to be stopping or at least reconsidering the practice.

As I have said many times before - Get thee to the track! Makes those "expensive" track days start to look "cheap" doesn't it? Being a squid is its own reward/punishment.
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

There is NO difference between the two parties.
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

Yeah. But they've sure fooled a lot of otherwise intelligent people into thinking so.
Re: Florida: Police Hope to Seize Motorcycles Without Trial

Gotta love it. The power of the state: "Hi, we're here to seize your bike. Seems one of our Patrolmen says you were evading the police yesterday."

Like taxes: the power of the people with the guns out strip the individual.

Seems that without video or multiple witnesses that the state would loose cases in which they seized bikes.

I'm not saying they should seize bikes in the event of a felony. Just that, the State should be forced to produce evidence in such a situation.
