Miss old Sean...hell, I miss 2003 for that matter. Life is sucking at the moment, hope they introduce time travel soon, so I can kick myself in the ass for EVER thinking of riding on the street again...shoulda stayed in the dirt on my motorcycle, and in my pickup on the street. Oh well...never know when the time's up, do we?

Dude, you have to quit kickin yourself. I have seen bad shyt happen to people that barely got out of bed. Hell, I saw some that never made it out of bed! You never know what would have happened if you took another path. You still have your mind and part of your body, and the rest will be up to how you look at it. I know it's easy for me to type this not having to deal with what you have, but I was flat on my back for 3 years due to an injury that pretty much cost me my job, marriage, house and everything else I had at the time. I was in poor health for a long time, and had two major operations not knowing if I was going to get better. I have some sense of how you feel, and the only thing that made me keep going was my attitude that things will get better. Things WILL get better for you. Back to the way they were? Probably not. But you still have lots to contribute to lots of people with your knowledge and experience. You have lots of support from lots of people. Hang in there.

Thanks LR, just kinda bummed at the moment, my ex-dirt riding buddy just picked up an FMF Works CRF450, and dropped by to show it to me. When my whole life has revolved around two wheels since 15 or so, it's hard to take when it's just yanked away. Going carting in December, here's a link to the place:Gimpspeed

Looks like fun, maybe my next ride will be a kart?

What happened to you when you were down? Bike? Car? Work?

Anybody with your writing abilities and huge base of motorcycling experience has a lot live for. I've been waiting for another one of your excellent "motorcycle history" articles, or something like the outrageously funny stuff you wrote on selling your bikes, for a while. the fingers and the brain are still working!

Got hurt on the job. I was a rescue diver as well as a firefighter. Blew out my inner ear on a rescue dive, and it didn't get fixed for a loooong time. Well, since your balance is attached to your ears, I was horribly seasick 24/7 with severe vertigo attacks several times a day where the room would spin and I would vomit uncontrollably. I couldn't work, eat, or sleep very well for over 3 years. I went from 250 lbs. of muscle, to 140 lbs. of bone and skin. My mom and I used to laugh about how I looked like I just got out of a prison camp. Puking your guts out 3 to 6 times a day for a few years will do that to you. Things pretty much sucked big time, and my wonderful ex wife decided she didn't like me much any more and bolted with the kids and most of the money, as well as the FD letting me go and then contesting my pension. Lots of medication and two major operations made things better. I still suffer from the effects of the injury from time to time, but things are a hell of a lot better. The things that kept me going were friends and family that never let me get down. I'm not in a wheelchair, but I do have some sense of how you feel. You will enjoy life again to be sure. Just hang in and keep getting that little bit better every day.

You had it no worse than the average supermodel. So suck it up and quit yer biatchin'!

Seriously. Isn't wonderful how the benevolent govt agency, the FD, went to bat for you? Won't you be happy to see us all be required to use govt healthcare? I can hardly wait. See how wrong it is to distrust the govt? All those people in England who have to remove their own teeth with pliers will attest to how benevolent the govt is.

T'was a fun time to be sure. The GOV has your back until you need them. Had to sue them to get my pension the way it was supposed to be. It was a slam dunk in court, but it was another 7 grand out of my pocket. Fun stuff.
