Buz will be on the way over come party time, my arm chaps are ready, and KPaul is staying in Seattle. Life doesn't get much better. Only the H-Man himself could make the 100th the party of the century. Buz, I hope the Glide doesn't fall apart before then.

I'm going to tow the Ducati behind it just in case. I'm really looking forward to the ride out there. There will be thousands of bikes on the road from all corners of the country.

The condo where I'm staying is preparing to accept 45 riders from Austrailia! Tell me that place isn't going to be a party.

I figure it will take us four days to ride there. That would be averaging about 550 miles per day. Maybe I should keep receipts and do one 1000 mile day for Iron Butt certification. Not on that stock seat though. I'm already shopping for a Mustang seat as a replacement.

We'll toast KPaul and inline 4s once I arrive! Start chillin' the beers.

The $5 handling fee is for all the toxic waste crews that will be needed to clean the spilled oil on the approach roads to Milwaukee. Also for the cleanup crews to pick up from the roads all the loose paraphernalia that accompanies any large group on Hogs.... clutch covers, trannies, cylinderheads, bongs, and the odd easyriders babe who passed out and slipped off the sissybar.

Should be a hoot.

Except for one thing. Think there'll be a poetry event so's The Highwayman can regal the crowd with his lyrical creations? Will it be by the trailer park?

How have your mods worked out?

The HD air zeppelin seat is actually pretty damn comfortable, if overpriced.

By the way, something I intended to reply to on an earlier thread was a claim I believe you made as to setting an age record for the geezer glide. I had my first ultra at age 22 (in lieu of a new car). I had my second at 25. Now I ride a Buell.

You turned into a Geezer earlier than me. I'm 38. I can't tell you about the mods because they're not on yet. I'm dropping the bike off today. I have my son the rest of the week so even if I get it back I won't be riding for a while.

I looked at the Road Z seat but it's a lot of damn money. I had a Mustang touring seat on my Low Rider and it was excellent. I run a Sargent on my Ducati which is also excellent and when you click on the link for H-D on Sargent's site it directs you to Mustang.

I wait with bated breath! Anniversaries for the infallible producers of perfect machinery (at least according to KPaul).

Funny you should mention the XS650. I repaired an 73 XS650 for a friend in exchange for an IT175 for my kids. It had been garaged but unused for a few years. Not a difficult job, I got it running but was completely unimpressed with the flexy-flier frame and really terrible handling. I didn't remember the bike being that bad. 'Course back then there were other examples of Japanese infallibility to compare it to.. like the Ksaki MachIII or the Honda CB350. Guess I've gotten spoiled over the years.

Yamaha's festivities should be interesting, if you can see anything from the clouds of smoke from all those vintage YDS2s burning a 20:1 mixture of SAE30 Valvoline.

I'm mainly waiting to celebrate Suzuki's charter! Maybe I can find some transmission parts for that old X-6 Hustler down the road. Oh wait. I forgot. ALL of those parts are broken.

Never mind.

Instead of a bike detailing service I'm going to start a bike dusting service. For $49.95 I'll make you and yer HOG look like you rode it there. Careful application of non-toxic grease and bugs will give you that really "I Rode Mine" look without any of the hassle of actually riding to the event! Think of the profits!

Re: H-D 100th: You look after my Aussie Brothers

We had our big HOG rally in NZ last month and the one in Australia is this week seeing we still have summer down here at the moment, then I guess those with the time and money will load up and head on over your way. You look after our Aussie brothers and keep an eye out for any Kiwis that turn up.

While I don't own a Harley I wouldn't have minded the chance to see all the exhibits and other things in Milwaukee.

Enjoy.

Cheers

Merv.

Something else on the H-D website

Harley is actually promoting VRod Demo rides. There is a form you can print on www.harley-davidson.com and you take it to your local dealer, demo the VRod, and enter a drawing to win one. Even if you're not a Harley fan it's always fun to ride someone else's motorcycle.

The VRods must be selling more slowly than expected. What's next, teaser interest rates and salesmen that actually give a crap when you walk in the door?

What? What happened to the rush of idiots with more money than brains? Are the dealer's being forced to only charge $10K extra?

It's really surprising that V-Rods don't just fly out the door at a mere price of $25K.

Or has the price collapsed to mere MSRP?

Re: Something else on the H-D website

I don't know. I wasn't in the market for one so I didn't investigate too closely. I paid MSRP for my Glide.

The limiting factor for me with the VRod is the too small gas tank. 3 1/2 gallons just isn't enough on a road trip out West.

No, actually you can buy one now for MSRP, and I met one guy who actually got one out the door for MSRP. They must have really fallen flat in the recent months after the initial rush of people to buy them.

Ditto on the XS650, I rode one a few years ago and was amazed by the poor handling. I've never ridden an H1 or a CB350, but I can't imagine they could be much worse than a V65 Magna. It amazed me that Honda could make a brilliant bike like the V65 Sabre and then make a deathtrap like the Magna.

I think it's nice-looking but fairly impractical. It's like a really fast bar-hopper.

I'll bet 2004 will be the year we see a different bike with the VRod motor.
