Life ain't fair. I mean, look at the Cadillac. Once they had the brand worth more than all the Japanese brands put together. They got complacent and thought if it aint broke why fix it. Good brand, good concept, even if the average age of the buyer was rising all the time.

Look at them now. They've fallen so far back technically that its almost farcical. Can they survive? I hope so.

So what's this got to do with this flat black 2009 worster you ask. Think about it.

Acccccctually- Caddi is the money maker (as it were) for GM. They are building low-volume quality vehicles that are worth their Caddi price tag. Now, through the 80s until about 2000 it was pretty weak. But that Northstar V8 motor that Caddi developed (over a decade ago) is the same motor dropped into all FWD GM cars with V8 options. Caddi developed the FI system for that motor independent of the other brands, too. I'd say that brand-wise Caddi has the best GM platform going. So much so that it should break from the other brands and become it's own company again. Owning a Caddi is cool again.

On to the Sporty: Nice enough. Too bad HD won't actually maket it as a entry-level bike. Do people buy 883s anymore? They ought to compromise and build a water-cooled 1100 cc bike for the masses. Oh, they tried that already and no one buys those bikes, either.
I like the V-Rod concept, but don't really like the design. Think HD would ever come up with a better idea on masking that big lump of a radiator? If it didn't look so funny it'd probably be a fun bike to own.

And so far as "technologically advanced" - Caddy's got it ALL over every other GM product, 'cept mebbe the 'Vette - and probably 95% of its non-US-made competition.

As a thirty-something professional, I have to say that I like the new Cadillac styling. Before, they looked like "old people" cars. Now, they look pretty *****in', with styling and performance in spades. Too bad my "thirty-something" salary can't afford the new Caddy prices. :(

"Do people buy 883s anymore?"

The smart people do. For the 3 grand difference between the 883 and the 1200, I could have a 100 horsepower '883' that will make that 1200 look like it's going backwards. I want to pick up a used 883 and make a street tracker for about 10 grand that will embarass that new one that Harley makes. Just looking for the right donor bike.

To be honest a couple years back they made a bike i liked 883R i think? it had a flat seat (almost like the triumph bonnie seat) and i want to say came in brown/tan two tone. Beautiful.

Google Storz and Zipper performance.

If you just buy an 883 and put the 1200 jugs and pistons on it you get a higher compression ratio than the 1200 and a little more HP. It also has slightly lower gearing making it a quicker street bike.

I'd get the older 883 without the rubber mounted engine. Sportster vibration doesn't bother me and you save about 50lbs that way.

Yep on all points! The older 883's are at least 50 lbs lighter to start than the new ones. Get the spoke wheel version and set it up with some alloy rims and maybe wave rotors. Getting 100/100 from the motor is not real hard or expensive, but that is where the bulk of the cash will go. Get rid of the steel fenders and heavy seat. Rearsets, flat bars, and a longer set of rear shocks complete the package, and one killer street Sportster is made for less than you can buy a new one if you pick your donor bike right, and can do most of the work yourself.

I wouldn't mind picking up an Ironhead and chopping it. That'd make a nice low buck project.

+1 on the Caddy, I'd love to have an Escalade

Would be cool, but how would you retro fit ABS on that thing?? :)
No problem, '78 and earlier had drum brakes on the rear, no way in west hell you're going to lock them up...

Maybe you could rig a hand shift with suicide clutch too, dog!
Silly rabbit, a right hand shift model is the way to go. I can just weld an extension on the shifter so it sticks up by the tank then spray it with rattle can Mexi-chrome and Viola,` instant po-boy custom hand clutch/hand shift...
