So what causes the handlebars to wobble once a bike reaches 40 mph? If it matters, I have an 01 intruder 1500. I just bought the bike from a man who laid it down 4 years ago and never fixed it. Well, I've repaired everything. I never noticed it with my hands on the bars but the other day I removed them while slowing down and the front wheel and bars started to shake violently. Scared the $#!* out of me.
Sounds like something got bent whan he 'laid it down'. Could be lots of things like a slightly tweaked frame, out of balance wheel, bent fork, tweaked triple tree. Take some measurements and see if the front and rear wheels are aligned. If they aren't, at least you have a starting point.
