Myself, I almost always wear a helmet and I won't let a passenger ride without one. About the only time I ride without is on my IT175 on my cabin property in the mountains and sometimes down to the nearest town (rural road all the way) for odds and ends. I'm just putting easily along when I do that at about 30mph.I don't know. I think most of the hardcore helmet Nazis left. They don't like freedom of choice and they don't like forum change.
...skiers, bicyclists, pedestrians, hikers, kids playing sports, people using swimming pools, surfers.... we could go on and on and on. All these are dangerous activities and anyone being hurt doing these things should be denied taxpayer funded medical care, even though they are paying the "premiums". Yeah, that's the ticket. People being taxed to death and when they get hurt deny them any treatment. We can save lots of money that way! Just hire a couple of guys and a wheelbarrow to haul the bodies away to the landfill. That'll result in lower taxes and premiums you bet!I have only one complaint about helmet laws: Medical bills. I wreck a bike and it is my fault I am forced to pay my own bills. That should be true for ANY motorcyclist that goes down without a helmet. Joe Taxpayer should not foot the bill! Other than that, I could care less. I've given up on the whole subject of helmet laws, tiering, training- the whole lot of it. Just don't make me pay for someone else's stupidity.
... how few people understand the "letting the camel's nose in the tent" phenomenon. They spend myriad hours arguing the pros and cons of nanny state legislation completely ignoring that the goal of the nannies is total control of thought and behavior from cradle to grave and issues such as this is just another brick put in the wall. They immediately demand more every time. "compromise" comes to mean that those who want to be left alone have to cave in. It's always one way "compromise" with the fascisti always gaining more. And some will say (not I) that you are stupid for not wearing leather at all times as mesh is less "safe"/durable.
And that is where legislation gets sticky. At what point does it stop. If helmets are now mandatory throughout the country and a study comes out later that states riders are safer if wearing all leather gear, does that than become the next item that is debated? Will the insurance companies use that as an excuse to raise rates because uninsured riders wrecked and had a larger than needed bill due to the fact they weren't wearing leathers?
History tells us "yes".
I knew I'd reel someone in.F*CKIN' A, GOD DAM RIGHT START THE REVOLUTION POWER TO THE PEOPLE RIGHT ON F*CK THE PIGS KILL A COMMIE FOR CHRIST BURN IT ALL KILL THE WHITE MAN.....(ummm, hold up on that one,,,)HANOI JANE WAS RIGHT SO WAS THE ASSA-HOLA..WE ARE THE GREAT SATANS AFTER ALL SUPPORT FIRST STRIKE WE START BOMBING IN 5 MINUTES..(oh was this mike on? tee hee)UMMM...YEAH POWER TO THE PEOPLE THE SLA HAS SPOKEN.....
jeezuss, where's the beer, this riot incitin' is thirsty work ....................
In your state too. But they call the stuff Ritalin... which crackheads like to snort when crack itself is in short supply. But what about the "Crack for Kids" program? Think that'll get any traction in your state?
Ha! If there's any place on Earth where darwinian selection is avoided it's freaking Europe. The entire continent's entire population is a ward of the State. All the people capable of original thinking left a century ago.If you really believed that was true, I think you would have died long ago.
Since my wife and I are in a pretty high tax bracket I am paying into the socialized health care pool. Like anyone else I'm entitled to share in that pool whether some crusader likes it or not. You're smarter than that, aren't you? My basic beef is- we choose to participate in an activity that IS more dangerous than most. You, me, everyone on this forum have personal responsibility. It's is not my job to keep you healthy. It's not your job to pay my child's medical bills when she breaks a leg on the mx course. I'm not say "Don't treat the injuries". I'm saying don't make anyone but the injured (if at fault) pay their own [email protected] way. You bust that bean don't expect a Joe Taxpayer bailout.
Paying premiums for Insurance gives you the access you need to medical services. That, in no way, is related to my arguement. Health providers should not be allowed to pick and choose the injuries they cover. It all should be covered- no matter the nature or cause of the injury. SEE- the arguements are NOT connected.
...the next thing we know you'll be recommending that people who actually work for a living actually deserve a better life than people who won't. Then where would we be? How would that army of otherwise unemployable bureaucrats survive without large masses of losers? The ONLY socialize system I am in favor of is SCHIP. BUT- there needs to be a standard to live by. The Family must make NO more than $40k combined to qualify for Childrens Health Assistance and the system should not be FREE. You should have to pay a minimum premium and Co-pays. When I was poorer (than now) my daughter was in the PeachCare system in GA. I paid $99 a year and $10 Co-pays. I got the service until my income raise back up to a level where I could afford private coverage again and cancelled the State policy. They help long enough for my family to find more income and better (than the state) coverage. No abuse of the system. I asked for nothing free. I paid in, they supplied a service and I dropped out as soon as I could (2 yrs). You don't pay taxes to be taken care of by the Gov't. You pay them to run the Gov't. Do I think food stamps, SCHIP and other welfare programs work? Yes and No- It could work better if we didn't live in a society that abuses the very system. Umemployment, Food Stamps and other programs should have a six month window. After that you should have to re-apply for the aide. If you make it make it harder to stay in the system less people will abuse it.
People were fed by local and State programs. Not the New Deal. And therein lies the difference. I think the vast majority of people are better off today than at any time in America's history. You said it yourself: you got motivated and you were able to build a terrific life for yourself! Did you know people were starving to death in the 30's when Roosevelt started the New Deal?
.... at least they can't put us on probation before we commit a crime. There is this old myth in the States that you guys have greater personal freedoms than us in Europe. Land of the free. Gun wise you have that, ok, but in reality you can't drink openly in the beaches and parks and the cops can seach your trunk withour a search warrant. Nowadays cops can wiretap you on whim and enter your house without you never knowing. You can't even publicly swim naked. Tsk tsk. Why couldn't you read a porn mag in the presence of a female coworker?
I'd bet that skiers are a greater burden on public health care costs than motorcyclists BY FAR.Hey There jimmy bob! I just checked on the internets. Helmet laws still suck.
Well, I DO give a hoot. I always hoot the enviro-nuts. 90% of whom use more electricity than I do. I have some solar power, you see.You don't give a hoot, do you?
We don't get enough steady wind. I use solar cells and 12V battery storage to power my cabin. At home we bought a new furnace and tankless water heater and even xeriscaped half the property to conserve water. The funny thing is that none, absolutely none, of my wife's very liberal hypocrite relatives have done any of those things. They don't vanpool or commute on buses or motorcycles. My lefty "tax the rich" niece lives 5 minutes from a light rail stop but drives to the University each day because otherwise it takes "too long".I've been looking into some wind power. Some do-it-yourself kits. We get a good amount of wind here. Do I think it will reduce my energy bill greatly? Probably not.
But, if I can get that working I will set up a large scale version on the land in Northern Arizona. I get more wind over there.
However I do still have a pair of tire-soled Jesus shoes I bought while on R&R in Sydney. My copy of "Lord of the Rings" and my love beads got stolen though. Are you now, or have you ever worn Birkenstocks? AHA! I thought so.
It's the lack of a shirt they don't like. It's the shirt right? they don't like the shirt ....
I guess those "Pretend To Be Someone Else" seminars for internet site promoters are still being given by Klazy Ken, eh?Actually I changed his URL to MO's site and I was the one that inserted the "my lame attempt..." title. It originally went to some Blog.
'I'd bet that a link posted honestly in the vendors forum would probably get more hits. I mean who, excepting AirHawk, is so stupid that they can't figure out these clowns with their "Hey, look at the great site I found" BS?'You mean these guys that have been posting these things aren't real?
