y know, LR, guys who go around espousing your view are Responsible for who knows how many brain injuries. Impressionable youths might listen to you and decide you're 100% right, and right there decide not to wear a stupid helmet. I am behind your decision not to wear a helmet, but please stop telling people they're no safer with a helmet than without one. Whatever the statistics can be made to say, it's obvious to any halfway sentient being that a helmet makes sense anytime speed and human heads are combined. You are right, we're all gonna die, but I don't want you buying my kid Marlboros and 6-packs just because of it. Same damn thing.

michael moore approach? would that be "Logic"? You IMPLY that riding is just as safe without a helmet by saying that riding w/o helmet isn't much more dangerous than lots of other things that kill people. If some kid takes that to heart, rides helmetless and becomes braindead, congratulate yourself.

Welll, i encourage you to think a little yourself. See, there's a whole SCALE of danger, some things being MUCH more dangerous than others. Take this test: What's more dangerous: riding without a helmet while strapped inside a 5000 pound metal container? Or riding without a helmet on a motorcycle? Clearly (I think) the former is MUCH less dangerous than the latter. Encouraging, excusing, condoning or defending riding a motorcycle without a helmet is dangerous and irresponsible. If you wanna do it, fine, please don't encourage others to do so.

Right. We're all LIBERALS out here! the people who brought you the five-day, 40-hour work week and the FDA. Lately I am beginning to come round to a less LIBERAL ideology tho. Maybe we just take the opposite approach to its logical conclusion and tear down all govt institutions? You know, police departments, fire depts, public schools... we've already got a good start.

In 1900, there was no such thing as food inspection, and thousands of people died from tainted meat and things. Sinclair Lewis wrote all about it in The Jungle (I think about the Chicago stockyards.) Rivers caught fire the pollution was so bad. Kids labored away in sweat shops from the age of 5. Life expectancy was somewhere shy of 40. Govt. is capable of excess of course, but all these agencies didn't arise out of a vacuum, they came into being because society saw a need.
