Well skipping the MSF isn't an option. I just worry that they might not take the time to teach her how to shift a bike. When I took mine they expected everybody to know the basics of how to ride. The also kept harping on what would fail you out of the course. Being a young hyper competitive male that didn't bother me at the time. Knowing my wife I think it would bother her.

My wife has told me she is "interested" in learning to ride but she is.
1. Very short. I mean 4'11" short.
2. A little scared to learn how to shift.
3. A little scared by the nuts on the road. "She is right to be scared about them".
She also is a little angry that when we looked at bikes she might right several shops suggested that I just get a bike she would like to a passenger on. While I have no problem with her riding on my bike with me I found it a little.. Well rude.

ever consider one of the big scooters? I know I know it's not the same as a motorcycle but me and my wife test rode the burgman 400( well i did anyway) and i was quite surprised at the power and handling also her learnig curve was not as steep( no shifting) after about 2 weeks of practice she was ready for the street she now has her "m" class licsense and has since traded up to the burgman 600 and can cruise at 80+ all day long.
Good suggestion. My wife hates manual transmissions even though she had a old VW bug with a stick when I met her. My dental hygienist got a scooter and her husband rides a cruiser.. She loves it, and she keeps up with her husband easily
One reminder, guys. Let HER make the decision what to get. Put the options in front of her and let her decide what she wants. Don't make the decision for her.

It goes 105. I had a 2003, the engine was in perfect condition. It might go 110 downhill with hurricane winds behind you. Everyone knows how fast they go because they're a dime a dozen, and everyone borrows their friends because they look fun, and on the first straight stretch you have to peg it if you're an experienced rider just to see if the little sucker can really do it."the EX250 can do, I think, a max speed of around 110mph"

And that's not bad at all seeing as the first Honda Hawk 250s did a max of about 85. My '67 Duck 250 Scrambler might hit 75mph on the level. 105mph out of a 250cc street bike is pretty damm good.It goes 105. I had a 2003, the engine was in perfect condition. I agree 105 is great out of a 250cc bike I keep wondering how kawi does it I've hit 130mph on my ninja 500r and can keep up with anybody except at those "insane speeds"

LOL:lol: Excellent Point.. Even though most of us are all married and we know she makes all the decisions. Because we have less memory (and it's less accurate) we still make the same mistakes over and over i.e. we will try to make the decision for her..;-) Thanks for the reminder...My wife remembers every thing and can recite things back word for word.. I am lucky to remember what I had for lunch..
