The Associated Press: Puerto Rico Passes Strict Motorcycle Law

Note the .02 alcohol limit. This is insane.

Welcome to the Brave New World. Coming to a State near you soon. Joe Sixpack and Sally Soccer, sitting in front of their TV watching "Friends", don't care. In fact they will cheer for this. They're jealous of you and fear anything different and, like crabs in a bucket, will pull down anyone who seems to be escaping a life as miserable as theirs.

Don't forget to take your soma.

Given the current political climate this is inevitable. Heck, you can be arrested for smoking in your own backyard in the Land of the Free now.

Isn't that something? I think they just effectivly killed the beach scooter rental business there....what the hell, it's only a couple of hundred people thrown out of work and a few million bucks in tax revenue...
Hey.

As long as the sheeple feel safe and think they're going to save a buck who cares? Freedom is too messy. We don't need any more of that around these parts.
Hey, that's Hal's eyeball! Open the pod door...

When I was stationed at Rosie Roads, PR, the last thing we had to worry about was blood alcohol levels...now purple MUSHROOM blood level was another thing all together. And chasing crabs on Honda passports was fun too. Oh Puerto Rico, what happened?

HAL, I won't argue with you anymore! Open the doors!
I truely miss you guys in a different format. I just can't seem to swing the quick check-in and follow the threads I want. But then KP is leaving a big void too. (I didn't say a good void)

Anyway, feel free to nuke this message for non content.

Bigdx and I are getting ready to play some poker........on a dirty...oh nevermind.
They have been hammering smokers for about 20 years now. Now anyone that drinks. Soon, anyone that does ANY unapproved activity. They will get to us sooner or later. Count on sooner. Remember, the Nazi's went after the unpopular Jews first. It didn't take them too long to get around to everyone else they didn't like. Think about it.

It's interesting you should say that. I was considering making the same analogy on the thread about the stupid FL law. In particular when one post said something to the effect of: "The simple solution is to not go 30 mph over the speed limit or ride like an a**hole." I HATE that argument..."If you aren't a terrorist, why should care if the government is tapping your phone lines?"
yeah yeah but it's puerto rico.. I live 30 miles east of PR. Trust me. It won't be enforced.
The safety issue...

... is a smoke screen. The real motivating force behind all this is simply the raw desire for power over others by petty and not-so-petty tyrants. It's not just would-be Hitlers to be concerned about. After all Hitler or Stalin would be powerless without the millions of follwers who were so willing and eager to oppress their fellow citizens. The same is true today. Each year we are faced with more stupid pointless laws, each backed by more and more draconian threats. Unless the industry gets smart and organizes to resist these attacks it will be severely regulated.
I understand what you are getting at, but enforcement isn't the issue. It's the fact that it sets a precedent for such laws to exist.

Just check out the retarded adventures of gun laws for a good example of laws without reason.

Scene: A graveyard.

And what better way to get power than to turn virtually everyone into a criminal? Remember the 55 mph speed limit? If 10% of the cars on the road were doing 55, I'd be surprised. It's the same today, everyone is speeding, maybe you forgot your insurance card, maybe your handlebars are too high.

There is one and only one answer: KILL ******!

Oui oui! J'avais dit la même chose toute cette fois - TUEZ L'HOMME BLANC !
I'm the one that said that about the 30 over law in Fla. Ken. I realise I'm at the opposite end of the political spectrum than a lot of the members here, so be it. As a general rule I try to avoid politics, you all are not going to change my mind anymore than I'm going to change yours.

I agree the Fla. law is total BS only because it represents selective enforcement which is a clear violation of the Bill of Rights. If you're going to have a law it has to apply to everyone, It can't be one law for motorcyclists and a seperate law for Bubba Hooker in his Trans-Am.

The law itself is a bit draconian but WTF are you doing going 30 over? in Wa. 20 over is considered reckless, a gross misdemeanor punishable with up to a year in the can and a $5000 fine, in fact the law defines reckless as anything that might endanger others including anything over the speed limit, can be considered prima facie evidence of reckless driving, that's why bro Krebs got in such trouble for a low speed wheelie.

Normaly it's at the officers discretion what to write it for and I've been popped myself doing 93 in a 60 and got off with a warning, however the law is there. With the Fla. law as well as this one in P.R. you all need to elect people who will over turn this nonesense as well as get the AMA's legislative branch involved.

The bottom line is that harsh fines for 30 over is fairly lenient compared to most other states if you care to look it up.

You're right about changing minds, we're all well past the point where our political views are formed. I'm a bleeding heart liberal Democrat through and through, and I like it.

I didn't mean to ding you personally on the comment, but the point remains: this is a grossly unjust law. You will be ARRESTED and your bike TAKEN for doing 30 over. Even if they modify it to aim it more at bike "stunters," it's still wrong. It's wrong to AUTOMATICALLY arrest somebody for speeding (I'm not saying there is NO instance where it would not be appropriate). It's wrong to take personal property without due process, and this "Contraband Siezure Law" is notorious for that. This analogy comes to mind: "On Fridays, it's against the law to eat meat other than fish." Is that law ok if you hate fish?

I have no problem with fines for extreme speeding. But why single out bikes? Cars and trucks have magnitiudes more mass and are far more dangerous at speed. Why aren't they being forfeited too? Answer: Too many of them.

The whole thing is ridiculous. What about the .02 limit? Same thing applies. Again, a car is far more dangerous than a motorcycle. What about all those people on prozac, vallium, percodan, benadryl, etc? They are far more impaired then some guy at .02. Many of those drugs don't affect reaction time but completely destroy one's understanding of consequences.

These politicians are simply morons. All this law is is grandstanding in an election year. Motorcyclists are a small minority that is already disliked generally. Easy to screw with. The crabs are reaching out to make sure we don't climb out of the bucket.
