I have a 1975 Honda cb550. I had the carbs cleaned and changed the oil this week and now all of a sudden I gain and then loose horsepower.. Now I don't know if it is the spark plugs are it...I just don't know..I rode it and full throttle it wouldn't do any more then 55 mph..If you have an Idea what it would be PLEASE let me know.

...jeezus, ever think of buying a manual? You need to "break" the cam chain to get the cam out, then buy the Honda cam chain masterlink when you put the cam back in. Don't forget to line up the marks on the alternator stator when you re-assemble it, or all the valves will bend, and the bike will be even more worthless than it is now.

As for receiving professional help, my bill's in the mail.

LOL! You're shytting me! Break the chain? Does this mean that the CB550 is an even bigger POS than the 700 Magna? I didn't think that such a thing was possible. Is this possible outside of Eastern Europe? Did Zundapp or DKW make the CB550 under contract?

BTW the latest escapade from my Magna is a tooth broken off the primary gear on the crankshaft. Now that's something I've never seen before. Glad that Honda's got that "superior fit and finish" because about all you can do with it is sit and look at it.

Getting this bike running has gotten to be the Holy Grail for me. Will I win or will the Magna? Stay tuned.

..yep, that's what you goota do, use a chain breaker, and make that endless chain have two ends. I don't know how Honda got the damn thing in there with no master link. You can loosen the two bolts (or is it three?) that hold the sproket on the cam, but the fit is sooo tight, it's like micro surgery.

The Magna, was deemed one of the ugliset motorcycles ever built. I liked 'em myself, sounded neat too. Johnson Wood Cycle Salvage as a motor for sale BTW. Real cheap. Is yours that neat Purple color?
