Helmet laws suck.

Riding without a helmet is dumb.

If you have kids, wear the damn helmet. You're living for them, too.

If you support helmet laws, then don't get upset with people who want to ban motorcycles - if riding with a helmet is safer than riding without, then not riding at all is safer still, no?

I hope I die on a motorcycle instead of in a nursing home at 80.

Re: Indian Larry dead

I don't think he liked smacking his head on the ground. From what I gather, that was an accident that happened while he was riding a motorcycle, which is something he apparently did like. It's like if you were to suffer a fatal heart attack while making a smug, illogical comment - if people said, "He died doing what he loved", they wouldn't mean clutching your chest and falling over.

So, when do we start the "compare and contrast" exercise where we tackle the "Indian Larry was an idiot for not wearing a helmet" and the "Earnhardt was a hero and it's a tragedy he died. Oh, and he wasn't wearing a HAN Device" issues?

As an ABATE member, Safety Nazi and crash survivor, I'm all for choices and risk management. Indian Larry evaluated the risks, and made his choices. May God Bless his soul.

Indian Larry was the MAN! He did what he loved with reckless abandon, helping Billy Lane with his bike so they would BOTH make it to the gig on last years Biker Build-off. He died while doing the sport he loved, the way he loved it -- HIS WAY.

Word from the track is that he actually hit some debris while stunting which caused his bike to go into the wobble. He was performing stunts all day and only on his later run did this tragedy strike.

(I read some on www.bikergazette.com -- no affiliation, mind you ... just passing on some relevant info.)

I call it the 85/85 Rule: You highside off the road into telephone on your MilleR at 85 mph at 85 years of age..... just before you get the test results that show you have inoperable brain cancer.

I don't think he did carefully evaluate the risks. Nothing wrong with the stunt, but a wheel wobble is something you can test for with all your mass centalized on the seat and they aren't that uncommon in old bikes let alone a chopper. I'd do what he did on my FLHS, but not on my Norton.

Kpaul, i think i just had an Epiphany man, it really is natural selection... trying to stop it is like trying to stop the earth's rotation or sumthing. Better to sit back in lotus position and watch it unfold.

Tsk tsk. you just don't make a very good Materialist, longride.

I say, let's put on "Harley-Davidson Blues" by Canned Heat and hoist a couple for Larry.

He'd probably prefer to be honored that way than by more freakin' safety legislation.

You know what I love about liberals? The fact that they'll kill you for your own good... and they'll sleep soundly after doing it.

CS Lewis once said something about the Benevolent Tyrant... hrmmm....
