My comment concerning 'real riders' was made in jest. I respect anyone who can finish the IBR, whether it be on a 125 or a Gold Wing. However, I find it very comical that 'we' all get so caught up on what brand, or what style of bike one rides, that we tend to forget the other guy riding the bike 'we' don't like is at least RIDING. Geez, how many arguements do we see generated over H-D's, or SV/Connie, twins vs. triples vs. fours? Too bad the DMV can't issue some tolerance (and, perhaps, a sense of humor) whenever a rider gets his/her motorcycle endorsement.

Agreed.



I consider myself an accomplished endurance rider and I stay in total and complete awe of the folks who compete at this level no matter what they ride.



I have had hopes of competing in the IBR but the more LD rides I do; SS2000, BBG, 50CC, etc., the more I stay amazed at those who compete Rally after Rally. The riding is a small part of the IBR and the other smaller Endurance Rally events which preceed it. It's all the damn route planning and documentation that kills you.

I'll second the comment by another cmmentator---try some of the other, qualifying endurance trips first. In fact, go to the Iron Butt website and you'll find out that you have to, just to qualify.

I did a SS1k on a Hawk 650. Wasn't what I'd call fun, but I did it and would do it again. Behind a fairing would be much easier---I covered 900 mi in a day on my ex-VFR without the intention of even trying for an ss1k. A BB1.5k would be almost impossible on the Hawk due to the number of gas stops dictated by its small tank...

Read the Iron Butt site, especially the tips and warnings, and decide if you want to attempt one. It can be both easier and harder than you think for various reasons you might not anticipate...
