It's Official: MotoGP at Indy in 2008

Well, there will be no F1 at Indy next year but there will be a second MotoGP round in the US of A at the old brickyard. Red Bull is the title sponsor ("Red Bull Indianapolis GP") and it'll take place on September 14th, 2008.

The PR hacks have even trotted out Mario Andretti, who states that MotoGP is the most exciting of all motorsports, and none other than NASCAR's (Yawn...almost nodded off right there) Jeff Gordon who expresses his excitement about the event (wonder if his buddy CEII will even be in MGP by then).

There's a track layout map published on a couple of sites, but I was too lazy to retrieve it. It doesn't look too bad, actually. You're on you're own there. You'll find it soon enough.

Actually, on a side note, Jorge Lorenzo will be on a Yamaha M1 next season but not as Rossi's teammate. He'll have his own one-bike team funded by Fortuna, so there's a chance that Edwards might again be Valentino's sidekick.

OK so whose been there? What does the uninitiated need to know? Where's the Mo Hospitality Suite going to be?
I've been there for the 500, but it was quite a while ago. I doubt my experience can be all that helpful because it wasn't typical. I was involved (through my company at the time) in a driver/team sponsorship so I had pretty much all-access credentials and we traveled with our driver via police escort to the track on race day.

Um, it's a really large place. That help?
Wow that must have been cool... The Indy 500 and Daytona 500 are the only two car races I ever watch. My Dad and I would either watch it or listen to Indy every year together. I bet Indy will put together a first class event and it will help the sport in this country. I love Laguna and it's a great home field advantage for Nicky and Colin but I would love to see MotoGP at Miller amd have WSBK return to Laguna.. Miller is such a great "proper" track and Salt Lake is a very friendly place. I would make the ride to Salt Lake.. Laguna looks like a logistics nightmare to me..
Cool links thanks.

I was there for a first GP race there a few years back. It's a gigantic place. We walked all over the place and there is lots to see and do there. I also applied for 4 tix and motorcycle parking passes. Tried to get the primo spots, so we'll see what they give me.
How exciting can a MotoGP race be that only runs in a circle?
Go Indy, I am leaving for Laguna Seca tomorrow, but I'm making plans for Indy already, life is good :)
How quick do tickets for something like this go? I see hotel prices aren't available on the net that far in advance. It's hard to plan that far in advance but I'm guessing I'll have to. J section I'm thinking. I must have missed the part were you have to set up parking. I wonder, how far is it to Indy? At least they'll run in the rain!

Yeah, a figure-eight with a Jump in the middle would be MUCH more-exciting, eh?:-o
I finally applied for tickests, now that the good ones are probably all gone. I've got some questions that someone here may be able to answer.
1. If you camp in the infield do you have unlimited access to come and go from the facility?
2. What's available at the track for meals?
3. Was I a dumbass for asking for a campsite and a motorcycle parking place?

Has anybody recieved confirmation on their tickets? If so how long did it take?

I applied the day they put them on sale. NO confirmation as of yet. Meals around the track are plentiful. Anything you want is available. Not sure on camping. If it's summer, it will be HOT.
Too far for me to drive because of timeline issues, but I hear camping there is great. I do believe there is a gates closed time of 9pm or so. Bring food. All food services would be closed by 7pm in most cases at most tracks I've been on. I put my request in for grand-stand because it gives you full track access less paddock which may be an issue at Indy but who knows.
I've posed these questions to the track. No response yet. I'll post up their answers.
I got J stand, just like I wanted. All my questions were answered by the FAQ site. So now what velocity can I cross PA, OH and IN on the interstates without drawing the attention of the gendarme?
Just got confirmation that I snagged 4 A Penthouse tix with 4 motorcycle parking passes for all 3 days. I got 3 extras for anyone that may need one. Should be fun.
I've looked, but no luck

You wouldn't happen to know of a web site/link that would show the exact location of a seat would you?

From across the street in a tent in area 1A :)
Mile at State Fair Grounds

Maybe I'm slow but I just found out that there will be a return to the Indiana Fair Grounds for an AMA 1 Miler the night before the GP. Could this get any better?

That's awesome!
