If I remember correctly (I was still a kid at the time) Kocinski was somewhat unstable and had a notorious temper? I think I read a funny article about him one time in which he had crashed out of a race, tore off in his rental car in a rage, went the wrong way down a one-way street, got pulled over and was arrested after getting into a verbal/physical confrontation with the officer.

I wonder if his house provides him with some serenity that was previously missing?

That was Laguna Seca--he got stopped for speeding thru Ft. Ord by one of their ironfisted security people and arrested, the local paper reported, for "wreckless driving."
