I have always been a staunch supporter of President Clinton, but the way this was handled was just plain wrong.
Legal Update from the AMA
This is good news. The Clinton initiative was an attempted end-run around democracy, a completely illegitimate use of regulatory power.
I went to the AMA site and e-mailed Bush and Cheney, and got a response saying "thanks for the e-mail, you've got rocks in your head if you want a personal response." It will probably end up getting deleted (just like most of the stuff I get on my e-mail at work), but still, thumbs up to the AMA for keeping an eye on our government and actually doing something when it sees something wrong.

The same President Clinton that perjured himself on national television? The one that recieved unrefuted accusations of rape? The same president that habitually abused the power of his office to destroy the lives of innocent people? The same president that bombed innocent women and children to take attention away from his act of sodomizing an intern in the oval office? The guy whose statement promising "the most ethical administration in history" has become the biggest joke in American history? You mean that guy?
What does that say about you?

I am a motorcycle enthusiast who has logged nearly 100,000 miles on the road and countless more on the dirt. I have been riding my entire life, even relying exclusively on my VFR for transportation the past 3 years. Nevertheless, unless we initiate some type of fertility laws or start partioning off areas as "undevelopable", our planet will be nothing but a wasteland in another 100 years. Our fate is truly looking bleak. Unless our cancerous growth can be moderated with some sense of preservation, we are criminally stealing from future generations. Still, there is no fate except the kind we make ourselves; I only hope we see the light before its too late, if it isn't already.

There have been so many ups and downs with this Roadless Initiative, I am getting dizzy. Too bad the courts have to act here - I would like to think our government had a clue.
It is true the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) was short circuited with this Initiative, setting back productive negotiation between all interested parties many years. Reasonable compromises could be reached if people would not stake out extreme positions.
I wish the environmentalists would appreciate that OHV users are as much in favor of preserving the environment as they. Our local OHV club received an award from former National Forest Head Frank Thomas several for years of volunteer work constructing and maintaining environmentally friendly trails available for anyone to use. We can enjoy and even profit from national forests at the same time that we are protecting them.

When one is young, one usually has a great deal of energy, not have much at stake in the status quo and wishes to see changes for the better (i.e. is liberal). When one is old, one has little energy, is heavily invested in the status quo and hence wishes to see no change (i.e. is conservative) for the simple reason that it is too difficult to adapt to change. Even at my advanced numerical age I have considerable energy and am willing to risk my investment in the status quo if it might make things better in some way (hence I am liberal). I prefer to quote not Churchill but Peter Townsend who said "I hope I die before I get old". Of course an experienced (as opposed to old) liberal is cautious of con men for as Townsend also said, "I pick up my guitar and play, just like yesterday, and get on my knees and pray, we don't get fooled again" because after all, politicians are all horses arses...

One powerful religious leader has stated that studies by the religious group have shown that the earth could support at least 60 billion people were all the earths resources diverted to that task (never mind how horrible such an existence would be). Because of this "fact" this leader is vehemently opposed to birth contol. With that kind of misguided leadership, we are doomed.
Sure, sure. Everyone knows it was agents from the Vatican who caused Chernobyl to blow up and who cause oil spills every year. They're probably responsible for foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks in Europe, too, and everyone knows it was the Pope himself who destroyed the ozone layer by making Americans addicted to aerosol cheese.
