There have been so many ups and downs with this Roadless Initiative, I am getting dizzy. Too bad the courts have to act here - I would like to think our government had a clue.
It is true the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) was short circuited with this Initiative, setting back productive negotiation between all interested parties many years. Reasonable compromises could be reached if people would not stake out extreme positions.
I wish the environmentalists would appreciate that OHV users are as much in favor of preserving the environment as they. Our local OHV club received an award from former National Forest Head Frank Thomas several for years of volunteer work constructing and maintaining environmentally friendly trails available for anyone to use. We can enjoy and even profit from national forests at the same time that we are protecting them.
